I travel in my country and to countries in different parts of the world, fairly often, on my business trips. I carry along my credit card when I travel, because I do not like carrying too much cash. I also carry travellers's checks, just in case I get to places where the credit card is not accepted. How about you ? Do you carry travellers' checks too when you travel ?

I am an experienced traveler. When I was a teenager I carried Traveler's checks. However in Scandinavia I came across some high bank charges to cash each travelers check. Therefore when I went around the world I took a few traveler's checks to use in the USA and in case of running out of money. I took a limited amount of currency and opened an Australian bank account as soon as I arrived in Sydney. These days I take currency and my debit card. I rarely take traveler's checks. I shall be going to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for friend Green Line.

No, I never have. Even when I went overseas several years ago. I don't think I even considered it. You know, I used to see commericals endorsing the use of traveller's checks, but I haven't seen any in ages. Do you think it is less common now days to carry them?

Hi my friend Green Line. When I was a teenager I took traveler's checks. In Sweden I found bank charges high. In America my US$ traveler checks were very convenient. After returning a trip it was possible to keep any not yet used traveler's checks until the next trip. These days I don't tend to carry traveler's checks. I like to carry cash for every country that I will go to on my trip. I have a visa debit card that I can get more money when that runs out. I have a secure money belt that I keep with me at all times. When I went to Guatemala I hit my money in five different places. I always read safety concerns in my travel guide book. Visiting an ATM machine in some parts of Africa can make me feel nervous. Happy traveling. Max

It really depends on where we are going and how much we are carrying. If we are going ot a foreign country I would definately carry them. Once we went on a very long two week vacation, we went with about half cash and half travelers checks, we figured if we were to get robbed or lose our money it would be safer since we were going to be gone so long to have at least some travelers checks. Most of our vacations we don't though. But I never keep all of the money in one place. I will usually have it in at least a few places, that way if we lose some or someone steals some we still have other money some where.

I have never tried them but they are a good means to carry funds. They are insured aren't they? I have always just taken my cards and a little cash. If I wanted to do that would I just go to the bank? Will everyone take a traveller's check? You have peaked my curiousity now..lol.

Hi. I have never used traveler's checks on any of my trips abroad. I just carry cash and credit cards. Fortunately, I have never experienced having problems using cards in other countries.
