CD/DVD drive is not detected or not shown in the my computer? I have 2 computers |
| |
| I have two computers with the same problem. Both of them are not able to run any CD or DVD. Earlier they were okay. But recently I noticed that I am not seeing my cd / dvd icon in the my computer window and so was completely sad. I now, don't know how to get rid of it. It can be a virus. But then, I have Norton antivirus installed. Help me. I am clueless. | | | | | |

| | hi bro, first check weather all the cables to your CD/DVD ROM drive are properly connected to both the sides, i.e. to motherboard and your drive. Then if it is connected properly then go to your system BOIS page before booting your system to OS (operating system) by pressing DEL button in your keyboard. In that go to booting priority options and select your CD ROM drive as secondary drive and before that check if you can see your drive is detected or not. If it is not detected then set your CD drive's small jumper setting to the back of the drive to slave. Ok this must work, if not there is some hardware problem with your CD rom drive. I hope this will help you. | | | | | | |

| | This is most likely happened in IDE PATA not on SATA Drive. First of all see to it that the CD/DVD Drive has power to make it sure that your drive is functioning well meaning you can eject your drive. If the case that no power problem then see to it that you jumper setting is properly set to its 'primary or slave' option. Remember this is always happened in IDE PATA drive not only CD/DVD drive but also Hard Drive. In the case of SATA Drive if your drive can not be detected in the BIOS whether it is a CD/DVD or Hard Drive then there is something wrong with your drive, meaning is it either faulty or busted need to be replaced. | | | |

| | Syndrix you are really correct to all points. It is a SATA Drive, but Alas[em]cry[/em, there is power. It ejects, manually by pressing the button. But not shown as option in my computer. | | | |

| | This error is caused when you install something like EzCD, Deamon Tools, Roxio or something like that. You then go to get rid of it and it doesn't uninstall itself properly. Windows has been told to use another file from another program to look at the CD unit through (sort of like a window if you like), and that program has now gone. To resolve this behavior, follow these steps: Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe). Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK. Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK. Quit Registry Editor.NOTE: After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value, if you notice lost functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording software, you may need to reinstall that software. If the problem recurs, consult with the software vendor for assistance. WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. | | | | | | |

| | Computers are just funny that way sometimes. I dont believe its avirus. I believe its just a thing where maybe that particular computer was never intended to have 2 dvd drives. I actually just went out and bought a new one with a big hard drive and memory. | | | | | | |

| | I think you may have to send it to the experts. Did you load in the software using the system CD? If so, it should have recognized the hardware. Open up your tower and see whether it is a connection problem. If all fails, go to the experts for advice and solution. | | | | | | |

| | Well, I have the same problem in both the computers. So, must be virus. Any way, I have to format it lastly. That's how I have taken care of it earlier. But, this time I have some important data in it. | | | |

| | I sure wish I could help you with this. Have you tried to use a can of air and blow out the inside of the drive or try to clean it off with rubbing alcohol? That may very well fix it. | | | | | | |

| | I can think of several things that I would do to see if I was able to correct the issue at hand. The first thing that I would do would be to check to see that all of the cables associated with the drive were properly connected. If you check and see that this is indeed the case, then I would look at the drivers. Perhaps I would reinstall them and see if they would make the drive function correctly. If neither of these things work, then I think it is time to see if a professional would be able to help me. | | | | | | |

| | Finally my CD drive is working properly. It is again working with the same speed. I mean it is fine now. There might have been some virus problem or so. Thanks to everybody who helped. Thanks a lot. Well, why don't my lot have a parallel system like the Facebook or twitter? | | | |

| | here is the solution, you need to delete the upper and lower filters in the registry click on start->run->regedit press enter (before you start take a backup of your registry by selecting file->export) next hit ctrl+f and in the search dialogue box, type "upperfilter" and hit enter. now delete each upper filter you come across, do the same for lower filters too. restart the pc your optical drives will be visible again | | | | | | |
