Salt Shaker! Do You Taste Your Food or Just Start Shaking?? |
| |
| Are you like me, do you put salt on your food without first tasting it, to see if it really needs more salt? Would it be a better thing to do, tasting first and shaking if needed, second? | | | | | |

| | I bug my husband about doing that all the time..no matter what it is he automatically reaches for the salt shaker. I rarely salt anything that I eat because I watch my blood pressure. Most of the time I wouldn't add salt after tasting anyway. I wonder does all that extra salt enhance your food or cover it up? | | | | | | |

| | ...Hi jewels49, I think, though I do it all the time, it is a very bad habit. After I do it and taste the food which is sometimes too salty, I get angry at myself but the next time I do it again. Got to try to stop. I think we think food tastes better, but if we continued not to put the salt on our food tastes buds would adjust I do believe and our food would probably taste okay. Try putting a little note on the salt shaker, big letters, "THINK!" It may help your husband. Take care. By the way, did you read the alert, we will be paid double today, the 22nd, for our postings. Take care. Thanks for your comment. | | | |

| | I always taste what I am going to eat before adding salt to it. I'm really not that fond of salt, and it is so bad for you. Now, with pepper on the other hand, there are certain food that I will always put some extra pepper on even without tasting the food first. My dad was a salt first, taste after kind of guy, and my mom would yell at him every time. When he got older and had to give up his salt it was the hardest thing in the world for him to do. | | | | | | |

| | ...Hi uicbear, First, did you read the alert? We will be paid double today, the 22nd for our postings? Pass it on. You are one of the smarter ones, that is what we all should do and for sure if we did, we would consume less salt. It is a very bad habit, not just not tasting the food first, but just putting salt on our food period. For some reason a lot of us have decided that our food tastes better when we empty the salt shaker on it. We should try, me first, to retrain our taste buds to like unsalted food, it would be a new and very healthy experience. Your dad was hsving a fight with his taste buds which I can understand. Take care of yourself. Thanks for your comment. | | | |

| | I usually taste the food on my plat before I add anything to it. When I'm cooking and adding seasoning for the first time, I'll add salt before I tatse it. I'll taste just before I serve it to make sure it's not too bland or too salty. | | | | | | |

| | ..Hi olisaur, That would be the sensible thing to do, taste if first to see if there is salt needed. Actully if we could force ourselves to retrain our taste buds to like unsalted food, it would be a good thing, I would think in the long run. But surely a hard one, as we have conditioned ourselves and our taste buds to like the taste of salt on our food. I think I mentioned to you about the fact that we will be paid double today, the 22nd for our postings, forgive the redundancy if I did. Take care. Thanks for commenting. | | | |

| | ...Hi CharRay7, So do many of us and that is where we find the problem. At least you using Morton's Lite Salt and trying to help yourself. I think I am going to make a promise to myself that when this box of salt that I have in my kitchen runs out, I will not buy another box. I will see how long I can not buy or use salt.:o) You are funny. By the way, did you read the alert, we will be paid double for our postings today, the 22nd. Pass it on. Take care. Thanks. | | | |

| | I definitely taste it as I salt it. I usually don't salt any of my foods, except maybe vegetables (which is a given). Too much salt just makes it disgusting, though! | | | | | | |

| | ....Hi maezee, Now that is a very good motto to adopt, "too much salt makes it disgusting". If I can get that into my head, perhaps I would use less salt and do myself a big favor. You are doing a very, very sensible thing. Not dealing with a salt shaker all the time. You are treating your body well, but I am sure you are aware of that. So kudos to you for being kind to yourself. Did you read the alert? We will be paid double today for our postings, the 22nd. Thanks for your comment. | | | |

| | For me it really depends on who cooked it. If the cook is someone I know like any of my relatives or friends, I'll eat it without putting anything to accept what they give so they will be happy that I am satisfied with their cooking. | | | | | | |

| | ....rene12, hi, what a nice person you are. To pay a compliment to your friends and relatives by not putting salt on your food. I am tempted to ask you if you have eaten something cooked by your friends which tasted very bad but you ate it anyway to please them? :o) That would be so interesting for me to know. Did you read the alert? We will be paid double today, the 22nd for our postings. Pass it on. Take it easy. Thanks for your reply. | | | |

| | I do taste it as I salt it. I really wanna see for myself how it tastes, so that I can do something about it, whether it needs more salt or it has too much salt in it. Well, I suggest you do the same thing just like what I'm doing because I think, you can guarantee a good taste if you will be tasting it for yourself. I love salt too but it must be on the right amount because too much of it tastes really awkward. And of course, people with health problems like high blood pressure must lessen the use of salt. | | | | | | |

| | ..Hi babyfiona08, You make excellent points. What I have just decided to do, as I have been reading everyone's comments is to quit the practice I have of salting and then tasting. In fact as I said here before, I am going to try to stop buying salt, I stopped buying sugar, so I am going to tackle salt, and just see if I can win the battle with my taste buds screaming for the salt. It's worth a try, see how far we get. Thanks for your comment and suggestion. We are getting paid double today. Take care. | | | |

| | If I prepare the food then I will usually put a little more salt without tasting it as I know what I added to the food. If it is something prepared by someone else or at a restaurant then I will taste the food to see if I should add more salt or not. | | | | | | |

| | ...There you go happy, thst's why you are happy. :o) As I said earlier on here, I am in effect consuming too much salt with my terrible habit, so I am going to ease into using less salt on my food, trying to get my taste buds to adjust, then I am going to try to forget to buy salt when I run out in a litle while. I know I am going to suffer, as I did when I stopped buying sugar, so I am going to have to psyche myself up here in some way. Going to be fun I'm sure. Take care. Oh yes, you probably read the alert, but we will be paid double for our postings today, the 22nd. Thanks for your comment. | | | |

| | ...Hi cerebellum, As with your mother, there are many people with high blood pressure and eating so salt only makes the problem worse. If only all of us would learn that salt is not our friend, we would be so much better off. But sadly we go on day after day, shaking that salt shaker and hurting ourselves in the whole process. I have promised myself that I am going to change and change fast. Take care. | | | |

| | Hi Artistry. I have heard about sea salt that is supposed to be better for you. I tried it at a friends and I couldn't tell the difference, course there is something wrong with my taste buds. If it is the same & better for you, if you must use salt, maybe you could try that. Have a nice holiday! Sounds like a good New Year Resolution! | | | |

| | I always taste my food first. I wouldn't want my food to be too salty, yuck! Most food except fresh vegetables and meat already contains salt or is cooked in salt, especially in restaurants so tasting first is definitely a good idea. | | | | | | |

| | ...Hi faeryoftheshire1, you said it, too much salt can turn it into something you should toss out instead of eating. That is a waste. I should change my ways and I am making a promise to myself, because I need to do, to try to not even buy salt. If it is not in the house then I can't use it. Re-conditioning is the word. Take care and thanks so much for your comment. | | | |
