What have you noticed with the Google Cache?

I am sort of wondering how often the Google spiders check out sites. There are days when my sites get spidered and cached every hour. And then there are days wherein a whole week passes before an update is cached.
Does anyone understand the intricacies behind this?
Do you have a site? What trends have you noticed?

Things like this can very. They're not on any set schedule. It depends on how many hits you get or if there is anything to record stat wise. Sometimes days can be busier then other, times of year, traffic varies. Things that are out of your control. Its like the theroy "a watched pot never boils."
