School Pictures?

With all of the different computer photo programs out there you can so easily take great pictures of the kids each year instead of paying the high prices for school pictures yet I still get a set of pictures that the school takes. But I am buying less than in the years passed because I know that if I can get the one than I can use my computer to copy it off and send off to friends and family instead of buying a big package and have a ton left over and it saves me a lot more money.
Do you still buy school pictures from the school or do you go some place else for them? Do you take your own and then use a photo program to fix them up?

We buy them when we can afford to. I am not really into the digital camera nor can I afford one. I don't know how all that works. If we need pictures we take some with my webcam. They aren't the greatest and, again, I don't know how it all works but it is good enough for our needs.

I just like my digital camera because it allows me to be able to see what pictures I am taking and if I see one that I don't like I can delete it instead of waiting till they are developed paying for them and then finding out that you just paid $30 for a bunch of pictures of your thumb because it is fat and always in the way LOL...My camera has actually been acting up quite a bit lately so I haven't been taking as many pictures which makes me sad.....These school pictures as well as the yearbooks are really getting expensive though which is also sad because those are memories that kids want to remember but because of price can't. Thanks a bunch for you response celtic

Hehe...do you just buy one and scan and upload the rest like I do or do you buy a bigger package to hand out copies to family?

I don't have kids, but my husband and I are pretty awsome photographers. If we were going to do proessional pictures (that is to say if we had kids) we'd probably do a family picture at Sears or something, so that we would only have to pay for one picture. LOL We could take nice pictures of the inidividual children (if we had children) with our own camera.

That is something that I have never done is get professional pictures taken at a place like Sears. I always want to though I think it would be great to get some Christmas and maybe fall pictures taken from Sears. My camera is on the blinks right now so I haven't been taking as many pictures but I was planning on buying a new Nikon D5000 here at income tax time but I was just hoping that my old one would of lasted a bit longer...Once I get that I think I am going to be able to take some better pictures and may not have to spend the extra money on school pictures..Thanks a bunch for your response danish

My daughter is now in the first grade and I haven't bought school pictures of her either year. When she was four years old I got a very nice DSL camera and since I've had that camera I do the majority of my photos myself and then if there are things that need to be fixed just a little bit I will fix them in photoshop. Traditionally the one exception to the rule of taking my photos myself has been Christmas, but even this year I did those myself and I think they turned out very nicely.

That is how I do my normal pictures I have two different photoshops and between the two of them I am able to make pictures look pretty decent. I want to get Christmas pictures done professional I just never do, I was actually just talking to my husband about this and was saying that I think that is what I want as my Christmas gift next year is to have professional pictures done up with all of us. Thanks a bunch for your response dorann

What photo program do you use?
We still get 1 or 2 pictures. Maybe 1 solo and one with the whole class. My son is already in the fourth grade and the pictures have lost its novelty. When he was in pre-school and kindergarten we ordered big packages to send to every relatives we know. We even attach magnets so the granpas and the granmas can stick it on their fridge. Now, we stopped doing it. Not that he's not cute anymore...

Same here bounce....we will just order one 8x10 for ourselves unless they don't have that package then we will get the smallest package and then add on the 8x10. I have Adobe photoshop but for the most part what I will do is scan the photo into my computer and then just send the kids photo to family members through their email addresses. If we were to try and buy enough wallets to send off to all our family members we would have to pull out a personal loan and the photographer would probably never have to work again.
