green..... prawns / shrimp... |
| |
| I just love Seafood and here I go, we in Australia must have the best anywhere in the World. The Seafood here is / lives in some of the cleanest water in the World. There is a different taste to it than Seafood from elsewhere. Bragging done, Prawns / Shrimps as some of you know them by. How do you cook them? Me, I boil water,(SOMETIME ADD SOME SALT), then add the GREEN PRAWN/SHRIMP (RAW is GREEN) to the water, Let the water come to the boil again and wait maybe 2 minutes on the boil, Then remove the seafood from the boiling water and straight into cold/iced water (This stops the cooking and the seafood going like rubber to eat). Then its into eating them, so YUM.YUM.YUM How do you do it? HICCUP/ | | | | | |

| | I love shrimp so much that often I don't season them at all. Usually I steam them. Sometimes I chop a few fresh coriander leaves over them, and if they are served warm, butter, of course. But they are good cold, too. | | | | | | |

| | Well, being from Maryland, home of the steamed crab, I like to steam shrimp with our own Old Bay seasoning. Crabs are steamed in Old Bay so I tried doing the same with shrimp and everyone LOVED them! But, maybe you have to be from Maryland to appreciate the Old Bay seasoning. But, I also love shrimp boiled and dipped in cocktail sauce, breaded and fried, baked, grilled, you name it. Shrimp in any form is always good, in my opinion. I always choose shrimp fried rice and shrimp egg rolls whenever I have Chinese food, too. | | | | | | |

| | Grilled is super good, I have an excellent recipe for grilled - marinate shrimp for a few hours or overnight in olive oil, crushed/chopped garlic, juice from fresh limes, salt and pepper, and a little chili powder. I love extra seasoning so I like to shake on some of that cajun stuff before grilling. Then I make the butter - a stick of real butter, crushed garlic, coarse ground black pepper, lime juice, and worcestershire sauce - melt in the microwave and stir to mix. You can either thread the shrimp on skewers to grill or use a grill basket, if you use a basket they can be done in the oven too. Very good, I often make these at bbqs I get invited to. I just bring the shrimp in the marinating bag and the butter in a tupperware dish ready to melt for serving. | | | |

| | I love garlic on just about anything so I'm game! (Garlic lowers bad cholesterol, keeps biting or stinging bugs away and also keeps vampires away! It can also keep your friends away but, well, you've gotta take the bad with the good.) I have shrimp in the freezer right now. I think I have some lime juice as well as chili powder. Hmmm, I'm not big on Doritos, though, because they're too salty for me. I might go for some unseasoned tortilla chips or something similar. Thanks so much for the idea! | | | |

| | Oh gosh! I have a horrible picture in my mind. They aren't alive when they go into the boiling water, are they? I won't eat lobster because they are thrown into boiling water alive.. that is so cruel to me.. I guess there is a reason for it.. but it just kills me to think of it. | | | | | | |

| | No the Prawns are dead before cooking, What happens is they are snapped frozen, That's humane as far as I can see. But the way they say is the kindness to do is for Salt water, drown in fresh water and for fresh water you drown them in salt water. But then when you think about it, is there any real way to kill anything correctly. One could come back to (living ) plants, Do they feel pain, I do know plant show stress, and have thirst, and can be poisoned, so why not FEELINGS this also includes pain. They say some where I read a tree screams when a branch is torn from it, I don't know how they know this, But I do know a tree can bleed to death, if it is cut bad enough and the sap pours from it. A bit deep, but does give us thought I hope in how we treat all things on the Planet. HICCUP/ | | | |

| | That is my favorite way to eat prawns and I dip them in cocktail sauce I make but I also like them with a good stir-fry and Chinese dressing or browned with vegetables in sesame oil. My very favorite seafood is crab, though. When it's on sale I buy it. It's already cooked so I heat it up, crack it open and enjoy it. Most people like their crab dipped in garlic butter but I like it just as it is. | | | | | | |

| | That sounds soooo good! They cook really quickly then... don't they? I've only cooked raw shrimp a few times, I did mine on the stovetop though since I was making scampi. I imagine steaming them would work well too, in the microwave maybe? | | | | | | |

| | mommyboo Be Careful in the micro-oven as the prawn could go like rubber, Prawns/Shrimps need next to no time to cook. 3 to 5 minutes is very close to all they need to cook on a hot plate/stove top. In hot water bring to the boil, add prawns/shrimps bring back to the boil and go another 2 or 3 minutes and that's it, very fast, Remember if you cook them first and are going to add them to another dish you are cooking less time to cook at first would be good as then 2nd cook they will not go like rubber, HICCUP/ | | | |
