Is Rock n Roll really dead? |
| |
| There are still some really great bands today, but I find all the really GREAT rock bands were in the early 70's mid 80's, like Led Zep, and Aerosmith. Has Hip Hop comepletely destroyed rock, or do you think there will be a comeback someday? | | | | | |

| | Hip Hop and rap is destroying more than just music. But that's not what this discussion is about. ;-) Anyway, as long as there's one rock listener left, rock isn't dead and it will never be. There are enough people left who detest hip hop and love rock, and that's good. A diversity of music will keep your senses sharp, rather than listening just to the same kind of stuff over and over again. Aerosmith is good stuff indeed, unless you are listening to it the whole day, it gets kind of boring. | | | | | | |

| | You sound like a music snob. I was just starting a discussion on the basis that many people say "rock and roll is dead." | | | |

| | "With bands like Chickenfoot, Disturbed, Metallica, Godsmack and such around, how can you even ask that question with a straight face?" That statement is sarcastic, and it sounds like to me you're a music snob. That's all. You're overly offensive over a small topic, so why does that qualify as a jerk? Lol. | | | |

| | If you read the first sentence of my post, I acknowledge there are some good bands today. I never said there weren't. I was just commenting on how people say "rock n roll is dead." Haven't you ever heard this before? | | | |

| | People were saying "Rock is dead" back in the late 70's too...and I told them the same things I told you. I don't understand how anyone can think that rock will EVER die...just because it is not the "Cool" thing at the moment doesn't mean anything. Calling me a snob was totally uncalled for. | | | |

| | Definition of 'snob' from Merriam-Webster online dictionary: 'one who blatantly imitates, fawningly admires, or vulgarly seeks association with those regarded as social superiors.' Does that sound like Lamb? Sarcastic, definitely; snob - never! | | | |

| | Depends on what you call rock and roll, some people would define it as 50's music (see Wikipedia). I think there's some good music being published today, but a lot of stuff that I don't care for. Maybe it's my age. :-) | | | | | | |

| | How could you think Rock is dead? There are great bands that are still around from the 70's too, just like Lamb said. There are also great bands around now, hell ive found a few on myspace and other sites. So does that make me a snob too? | | | | | | |

| | Wow, I see you're getting a little schooling on how people misinterpret things and then take them too far here. To answer your question I don't really think rock and roll is dead (and I also get that you were merely asking a question about a popular phrase and not stating that this is your own personal belief). I think it's definitely fallen ill and in our life time we may see it's death rattle but for the interim there are still the rock solid veterans keeping it alive - like Aerosmith (well, they're a little iffy now), Alice Cooper, ZZ Top - and there are some great newer acts and artists breathing new life into rock - people like Dave Grohl and Chris Cornell. I just hope that all the crap that's coming out and all the hype that comes along with it doesn't completely drown it. | | | | | | |

| | I honestly doubt if it will ever die. Now that most people have satelite radio there are certain stations that play ALL 70'sk and 80's rock, some play classic rock only and some play har heavy metal rock only. They have one going in the gym alot and they play one that is a mixture of all rock. I even hear Stairway to eaven on a cell phone the other day. | | | | | | |

| | I think everyones definition of Rock is different. What some people consider Rock is actually in the Metal or Alternative group. Yes, those are subgenres of Rock but the don't come close to comparing to what rock use to be. | | | | | | |
