Death Sentence Is Brutal?  email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 88/100. skysuccess (5593)   ranked 97 out of 4,345 in have discussion on day to day issues 3 years ago

Martin Luther King Jr, once said: “Justice denied anywhere diminishes justice everywhere.”

I do not know about you but the Western counterparts have just every reason to do away with Capital Punishment and I just cannot imagine the arguments they bring up to abolish it in their legal system.

Yet, we see murderers getting away with their heinous acts, get released into the real world and then commit another crime. I do not know what and which part of the death sentence is being brutal when the perpetrators were being cruel and intentionally brutal to their victims who lost their lives under their hands.

Do the crime pay the time, what is so confusing about it where justice is concerned? Yet, the biggest advocates of civility seems to be confused or would I say forget the fact that and accord civility to those who literally have total disregard of it.

I am sorry that I am ranting here, but I just cannot help feeling it and pushing for the capital punishment especially after reading this article. It related how a young mother was being sadistically attacked and nearly murdered by a sadistic sex killer released prematurely on parole. She would have lost her life, if her son had not returned home unexpectedly.

I feel that this mother would not have to experience such an ordeal if the capital punishment had been in place with this killer being put away for good in the first place.

Do we need this to happen again? Is justice REALLY this blind?

i think if you killed someone and there isnt a doubt that you didnt do and all the proof is on the table, just like yesterday the guy who kills 8 people, two were teens and one was only 4 months old. he should jump in front of the line to be hung, shot, or have the injection to die.
because our jails is so over filled people who commit lesser crime then killing are set free early. so the people who hurts kids are set free, the drug dealers who deals drugs to our kids are back on the streets.
i am a true beliver in death senantce.

syankee525,

I am glad for your response and do encourage you to enlighten another fellow US member here about death sentence in your country.

Like you, I am with you that jails are for criminals who have another chance with the real world or who could be re-educated and another chance to start a new life. I just cannot speak for those cruel and regardless killers and drug traffickers who brings harmful substances to fellow mankind.

Yet, it is sad that some authorities do not see eye to eye in justice today and I just cannot understand the reasons here. Just what is so barbaric about it, when acts of these perpetrators are atrociously unspeakable.

Sad, isn't it?

most people dont know when you are doing life, they live better then people who arent in jail. and they also can work and make money in jail. and also if more people like at the number those who kills will kill again.
they shouldnt be given any chance at all because thier victims didnt have a chance or the choice to die or live.

Mike,

My exact sentiments here as I am really for the capital punishment here.

Frankly, it is just really a waste of resources especially tax payer's hard earned monies to coddle them and worst release them into our midst. It is just unthinkable here.

Have a nice day.

P.S.

Thanks for some clarity below too.wink

lolxfahctor,

I am surprised that you are so conclusive here and if I may just ask if you could kindly let me know at which part of my posts did I advocate for the ABOLISHING of the death sentence or otherwise capital punishment?

I am so sorry that you have very little knowledge of what I am trying to say here and perhaps that's my lack of eloquence here.

Or, is it the other way round?

Anyway, I will let the rest here to be the better judge of things.

Aye?

Hi X.,

I suppose you are having another terrible bouts and I do hope that you will get well soon.

Anyway, there's no issue with me here and I am just rambling a bit here. I know that my country has the reputation of being a "Fine" country but I suppose there are causes for those rigid laws. However, the country will not be what it is today had the laws been laxed and corrupted.

I think I need to clarify that Singapore like most other countries who imposes capital punishment for drug related offenses, will only execute drug traffickers, kingpins and syndicate members. Drug abusers in possession will only be mete with harsh jail sentences. I just do not see any issue with this and most of the time the Narcotics Bureau (one of the best in Asia) will have enough proof for the sentence to be mete out.

As for the chewing gum issue, I feel that the government is doing it for safety consideration. In the past, there were a lot of problems with people littering chewed gums onto the Mass Railway Transit trains and there were some incidence where these gums actually found its way into trains door grooves. These has cause many inconveniences and even have trains being stuck at the station for indefinite periods. This is not only inconvenient to commuters but dangerous as well, as all it takes is a computer hitch and we will have a major incident.

If I may just add here, by far most of these bylaws have been carefully weighted before any implementation, it may seem at odds or a joke to the rest of the world but I can assure you that it is really of relevancy. I am not sure if you have had the experience of visiting Singapore but let me assure you that it will really be worth your while. With the International Resort completed I am sure you will really be impressed with this tiny red dot, don't just listen but make a trip to experience it yourself.

Again, I wish that you get well soon and have a nice day in the meantime.happy

I wont go in to alot of the laws where your at, I don't live there and as such I probably dont have much of a right to an opinion on them , whether I agree or not (though chewing gum??/really??) anyway. thank you for the well wishes, i'll get over what I have eventualy, it is temporary, though quite painfull, more of an inconvenience than anything and certainly not life threatening....ahhh..gotta love old age, lol. Anyway, again, please accept my apologies and have an awesome day.

When someone has been caught in the act of doing violent and deliberate murder, yes, that person should receive the death penalty. The one thing that is scary is how many people HAVE received and been put to death in the past, and found later to have been innocent. For here on earth, death is final.

But again, when caught in the act, when it is irrefutable, a murderer should receive the death penalty, and not be allowed endless appeals over many years time.

Hi Karen,

I think given the fact that there has already been so much progress in the field of criminology and especially forensic science, it would just be fair to say that the margin of error or the chances of a falsely accused or wrongly sentenced is just very slim.

I am sure that every defendant will be given ample opportunity to prove their innocence with every available established legal system and mechanism. I am just curious to the point of bewilderment how some governments do not see the need of capital punishment, especially when it is so necessary or rather justified.

Like you, I just do not feel that any law should tolerate or even grant these perpetrators who just have totally disregard others' lives at all, like this sadistic killer in the article here.

Take care and have a nice day.happy

I agree with you a lot of the terrible crimes that have been commited have been done by ex-convicts. The should be killed and because leaving them behind bars permenently is not a better option

myLot reputation of 88/100. skysuccess (5593)   ranked 97 out of 4,345 in have discussion on day to day issues  3 years ago

lindiebiz,

My exact sentiments here.

I am sure that the case here, along with many others who have been found guilty should be put away for good. However, I am just appalled with these governments that put away the capital punishment and release these hardcore criminals back into the public to repeat their crimes and do more harm.

I just loose my perspective of true justice when I read such unsettling accounts where lives are literally destroyed and lost.

Makes you wonder if all that education had gone down the gutters for those sitting at the office, doesn't it? thumbdown

Hi zed_k4,

Like you, I am really for the capital punishment and necessary, especially when I've witnessed countries benefitting from it.

I just do not see the need for tolerance on crimes similar or even worst than this account here. Also, for drug trafficking, too. Yet, it is really both baffling and bewildering for me to find some countries or States actually against death sentences.

Let's hope that they will reconsider the capital punishment after all these revelations and make the community a moderated and safer one.

Have a nice day.

Hi Skysuccess. You present a very good argument here and I agree with you.

I am fully in favour of the death penalty for PROVEN cases of murder and as the maximum penalty for other violent crimes. I am Australian and we do NOT have the death penalty here.

Even though the offender deserves no mercy, I am in favour of the death penalty being performed in as humane a way as possible, and as quickly as possible after sentencing. No one should live on death row for years.

I also believe our prisons should be places of punishment and correction - not living a life with more comforts than many of our law abiding citizens. Prisoners should have to work and prisons should be self-supporting - not paid for by honest tax payers.

If our prisons were more like prisons and if the death penalty was in force and applied, I believe our crime rate would fall and prisons would not be so crowded.

myLot reputation of 88/100. skysuccess (5593)   ranked 97 out of 4,345 in have discussion on day to day issues  3 years ago

cloudwatcher,

My exact sentiments here and I just cannot understand the logic of excluding it. In all fairness, I felt that it has done much good than harm for the society and the community as well.

As for the prison issue, that being part of the legal infrastructure, I just feel that it cannot be independent or privatized to run on its own. I can understand the accounts of some inappropriate inmate accounts, but I feel that they are happening because of certain corruption within the system. It is just a different light, if you know what I mean.

Take care and have a nice day.

P.S.
Thank you for the compliment.

myLot reputation of 95/100. cloudwatcher (4168)   ranked 758 out of 4,345 in have discussion on day to day issues  3 years ago

Skysuccess, I was not suggesting that prisons should be privatised or independent. That could not work. As you say, prisons are part of the legal system of the country and therefore must be run by the country (the government).

However, I do believe prisons could be self-supporting in that the prisoners have to work. Prisons can become manufacturing plants and the profits from the sale of the items used to pay the upkeep of the prison. Prisoners can also work in growing crops to feed the prisoners and staff. I know there would have to be certain precautions in place in maximum security prisons, but I'm sure they could be put to work in some way. The majority of prisoners could be gainfully employed.

I have been told there are some self-supporting, or at least largely self-supporting prisons in USA where the prisoners work normal working hours. Honest taxpayers should not have to pay to keep prisoners in better living standards than many of them enjoy.

myLot reputation of 88/100. skysuccess (5593)   ranked 97 out of 4,345 in have discussion on day to day issues  3 years ago

cloudwatcher,

I am sorry for not getting where you were coming at as it is a little difference in my country.

Where I come from, our prisons does set up learning workshops and work like handicrafts, furniture and even have academic programs to rehabilitate, learn, upgrade, pick up a skill and hope that it will help them assimilate back into society when they are released back into the world.

However, the remunerations or proceeds are actually being credited back into the inmates bank accounts instead, so that they could have the necessary finances when they are out. The legal system here is quite a tight outfit and you can be assured that these facility are quite bare and adequate. It is even audited.

I do agree with you that honest taxpayers should not have to pay to keep prisoners in better living standards than many of them enjoy and I can assure you that the jail here is really not "enjoyable".

Thanks for the clarification here.

I am with you for that. I believe that death penalty is ordained by God to punish the evil doers. It is not for people who kill unintentionally but for people who really kill someone by planning it and do in such a way that will really shock us. If we are observant enough, countries who have death penalty activated are the countries with less crimes. I believe that each country or my country should re-instate the death penalty. It is good for us.

Well, this is certainly another perspective looking at this issue.

I hope that your government will see the necessity and benefit at the end of the day. There's just so much it can do for the law and order of a country and keep these crimes at bay.

Let's hope that the other quarter will really see the light.

Capital Punishment is a must. Even in my country, criminals are rarely hanged, and most of the culprits get a life term sentence, which is usually 14 years. This is further reduced for good behaviour, as well as during the leaders birthdays or during Independence day, etc. Usually these criminals get parole after just 10 years.
Of course if you are rich and powerful, you can get away with day time murder or even a massacre. I am also ranting. What can I do. I can just rant. Nobody is going to take the word of the common man.The reason there is a deep nexus between the criminals and politicians.
Conclusion, I want the criminals to be executed, not by hanging, but by beheading which is done by the Islamic countries. This will put a stop to all the rapings and other heinous crimes.

rameshkumaar57,

Corruption is rampant and there's no way of stopping it if people in government do not evolve within themselves and realize what they are doing to their country.

Let's hope that whatever they have decided now will rear its ugly head and bite them back to wake them up.

I wonder at the end of the day, if revolutions in the past is a justified cause.

Have a nice day.
