Finally over.. The Great Swedish Agony! | | | | SAAB finally has a new chance in Sweden. It has been a terrible agonizing time for many Swedes, these tactless talks and negotiations that dragged out between interested purchasers, (then rejected) and GM. I tried to not feel the pain when they published.. "NO the hope is gone" THEN "Yes , a wee hope remains" and this went back and forth,, agonizing.. O,, how hard to see the faces of masses of people with agony and sorrow written on their faces as they stood amassed together in Trollhatten,, the home of SAAB industry and its 3,500 employess, not to mention all the partners in creativity and supplies. It was impossible to look into the faces of those people without bringing tears and anger and disgust! and NOT just to me. It would have been a ghost town.. imagine a 2O10 ghost town?? Sweden is already in trouble with the economic changes! And yet,, they were third highest in the world behind Canada and the USA with money amounts sent to immdeiately aid Haiti..amazing isn't it? | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |

| | welcome to the world of economic downturn! 3500 employees supports a township of approxiamately 20,000! Between Canada and the USA, between Ford and GM, tens of thousands have lost their jobs...not just he factory workers, but the closing of dealerships, service shops, suppliers, etc. I truly hope that this wake up call will help these manufacturers (now being rescued) to turn out a product that is truly viable, dependable, without built in obsolescence. Endurability is a good trait to help sustain economies. THE "HAVE'S" buy the NEW vehicle off the line...the "HAVE NOT'S" buy the used vehicle....everyone is kept busy & employed! Congratulations on your Haiti aid....very hard NOT to assist in anyway one can! Cheers! | | | | | | | fjaril (6097)

| | hi there my friend! I know we are not alone.. I know what the economy has done to Canadians, Americans and many mnay others as well.. How money talks and maims and kills. I really wasn't trying to brag about the amount of aid from here to Haiti,, I meant to make a point. We are only 9 million people. In these kinds of crisis, to ordinary people around the world.. it is often those who are suffering themselves that come to aid other sufferers.. inspite of their own situations. We have alot of unemployed now and funds for them and those sick have been decreased to all to compensate.. People have to leave the homes they love and sell cheap to keep surviving.. and yet money goes continously from here to others out of country because we know and understand suffering here too. I am grateful I can look again at the faces of Trollhatten's SAAB workers and all the subsidary businesses that depend on them and their work and that supply them as well. Another cog passed in the huge wheel. | | | | pergammano (3547)

| | Furthermore, dear friend, I was NOT trivializing Trollhatten's misery! So many towns in B.C. like Prince George, Prince Rupert, etc., have fallen into extreme HARD times, as their entire infrastructure WAS/IS based on ONE industry! The Industry arrived.....the town/city built around it, the industry fails, so does the town! Our "logging/lumber" industry is on FAIL mode....so now the challenge is for the town to re-build...some like Prince Rupert have by dredging and building a "deep-sea" port, thereby employing everyone. We are learning many great lessons from the recent economic glitch. Our "Governor General" from Canada is from Jacmel, Haiti, so we felt the extra push to aid...and we do have 33+ million population! Take care...and cheers! | | | | fjaril (6097)

| | Thanks for all that information!! I really appreciated you informing so well on what had been happening there. I care!! It is a good thing to see the Canadian perspective also.. I care about that to, for obvious reasons! A very good people, in my belief! Thanks my friend, so very much! | | | | pergammano (3547)

| | I truly hope that I did NOT offend you, as I realized that my first comment seemed very insensitive, but that is NOT what I intended! My perspective is/was; that NOW that we have had the "wake-up" call, we had bette get back to basics, be it personally, collectively as a community..or globally, as the spin-off from GM was SAAB, and it's near demise! Part of my education, was the sage sayings of my elders...one of which fits our economic situation now..and that is; "DO NOT PUT ALL YOUR EGGS IN ONE BASKET." Something that I have carried in the back of my mind, all my life and has kept me adaptable to the situation at hand! I do apologize for seemingly being insensitive...I do care about the plight of anyone facing a terrible downturn in their lives! Cheers! | | | | fjaril (6097)

| | There is no need whatsoever to apologize to me, my dear cousin! There is nothing to apologize for! You gave me your perspective and I surely appreciate it, and I gave you mine and you in turn.. THAT, to me , is a discussion.. I thought we were speaking Swedish, actually, as you sounded like a Swede and I became very comfortable.. looking at the different views and commenting on them.. But then, please forgive me,... that because you also being Canadian, I should have been more sensitive to the generous kind caring nature of Canadians and that you might not find me as friendly sounding as your regular countrymen. I should learn better.. finally..never to take for granted that expression in words on paper is never the same as speaking in person My humble apology. wanna meet me in NFLD( is that halfway) for coffee and a niced baked something?? | | | | pergammano (3547)

| | Oh...my goodness...NFLD! I would, far prefer a "klatch" in the Mother Country! AND...actually some of your "Java!" One thing...it seems that I have not learned...Writing is very tangible! Written proof..in black and white! Speaking wafts on the wind...and seldom is re-iterated verbatim! So, I must be more careful of what I write...and throw caution to the wind when I speak...LOL! Let the BS roll! Ohhh...mine papa would not be pleased with that statement. Take care..and Cheers! | | | | | | | Money Market Rates Get The Best Money Market Rates With Exclusive Online Offers. firstcountybank.com | add comment | | | |

| | Good evening Fjaril. The same thing happened about 20 years back in my city. There was a car company by name, Standard Motors, they were making Triumph cars before Independence and after Independence when foriegn things were banned in India, they started to make cars of their own. They were quite cute looking cars, and we were one of the proud owners of one their cars. Its name was standard herald, it was a two door car, and you have to push the front seat to climb into the back. Labour problems cropped up in the company and it was closed down and more than 5000 families suffered. Nobody did any help to them. The place where the factory stood, is now being promoted a special Economic Zone. About 10 years back, a Clothing company, one of the biggest named B & C mills, closed down, and more than 6,000 to 7,000 families suffered. The area became a ghost town for some years. Now the land where the mill stood is being promoted as a big mall, hotel, and fully furnished apartments.Just think of these families, most of them starved, and begged for food. Many committed sucide.Life was very cheap, at that time. Today not a single company is being closed and on the contrary,Indians are buying business through out the world.Recession did not affect India very much. Life is a cycle. One suffers one day, and some one else suffers some other day. | | | | | | | fjaril (6097)

| | You should be very proud of Sweden. Despite all the problems, we've all been trying to help the Haitians. I'm wondering if there will be modern ghost towns here, too. When we had one business start to go under, 3 houses per street were for sale with no one to sell them to with no immediate businesses coming in. Someone came in and took over, but they took on only half the people. My husband works where a thousand people were employed, before Christmas, they were down to 210 and soon they will be down to 20. He helps make subway cars. Done by bids and if others outbid them, no contracts, no employment. The price of metal and other materials are killing the bidding right now. Many places just don't have to money to bid or replace cars. For awhile, during $4 a gallon gas, subway car business was booming, esp. with the cheap cost of metal. Now gas is below $3 a gallon and cities aren't asking for more subway cars or they're giving to other bidders. At the end of February, we may be in trouble. I hope Trollhatten does not end up a ghost town and that they can keep working. Somehow. | | | | | | | fjaril (6097)

| | With this discussion was meant the final relief that the agony is over.. While your government gave billions to the auto industry BIGS there a while back, to bail them out yet again, GM decided to dump SAAB..so business goes.. so it always goes.. but the agony was unbelievable.. as it was on and off again over and over in who GM would sell SAAB to for the best possible deal.. The deal finally made months later.. Life is like that. I know only too well, myself, so I understood WHY.. just not the heartlessness of it all. Money talks.. people are but pawns and your example of what is happening there just now and how it will affect people like your hubby?? yes.. I am worrying for you too. I will say one more thing.. and it is a universal thing.. the rich have it all and do not care about you or me.. business is all about the money.. I worry for you! | | | | | | | | | Mortgage Rates Hit 2.50% If you owe under $729k you may qualify for 3.01% APR Govt Refi Plans. www.MortgageRatesExperts.com | add comment | | | |

| | Go SAAB! We have had a lot of them, we've got two now, but what I've never understood is how a company that started out making airplanes can produce cars that are literally glued to the ground? I think the lowest one is about 5 cm above the ground, or possibly 3 cm. It's good car, but you have to slow down to about 5 kmph if you want to go across a speed bump without hearing "crunch, crunch" :-) | | | | | | | | | Torunn (1536)

| | I think all young boys that drive too fast should be given a SAAB 900. Possible one without servo. Not many chances of driving too fast then. But SAAB has to continue making cars because sometime when I get rich and famous I want one of their 4 wheel drive cars. They're a bit over my budget at the moment though, they cost 700 000 NOK here. | | | | | | Torunn (1536)

| | Congratulations to SAAB! I often wonder how much of the promised amounts of money actually make it to the people it was intended for in the first place as a result of these disasters. We never hear exactly how the money is collected, how much is actually collected and how it is dispersed. I'm not very trusting in these matters. | | | | | | | | | | | | Debt Consolidation Find Providers of Debt Consolidation. Your Bus. Solution www.business.com | add comment | | | |
