We have not seen any good phones yet.  email this discussion to a friend?

Let's face it. In US we have not seen any good phones. All of the phones we own are very old technology phones. Even and iPhone or any new top of the line phone is just a junk. Let me explain myself. Japan is just years ahead any innovations. I came across page with Japanese cellphones let's see what I got. Did you know that you could of browsed your email in Japan starting 1999. Cameras from 2000, they have 3g since 2001! Electronic payments phone in 2004, and full digital tv in 2005.

-Most of the US phones would not work in japan, because our networks are outdated!
-They have water proof phones. We don't!
-10megapixel camera phones. We don't!
-Solar charging phones!
-Electronic payments phones!
-TV

If someone thinks that iPad is something even close to high new technology. You are so wrong.

Our phones aren't bad :( Theirs is just better. :D, during some war, I forgot, Japan sold weapons and became rich, so they hired more sophisticated engineers and scientists and eventually became advance in things related to technology. I'm 100% sure that the U.S. has at least 100 reasons why living here would be better than living there.

Hi Unnamedny,

Yup, we're so behind when it comes to phone technology. I cant believe that in 2010 I still have to make sure Im not surrounded by anything metal to be able to use my cell. Dont ride down an elevator, your cell might not work there. Its ridiculous, I cant imagine corporations not having the means to take us into 2010. Yes it seems that anywhere else, phone works great except here in Canada and the US. We see people in remote places in Africa, in the middle of nowhere using their cells......yet dont stand here in the middle of a parking lot at the mall......it might not work or go at the Arena to watch a hockey game....hey forget it in there., So why are we holding the short end of the stick you think?

I already know Ipad is a desperate attempt for apple to keep themselves on top. They should really stop trying and cut their losses. Sure the've made compition but that's about all Apple's done. PC and Microsoft are years ahead of them. Of course. And, yes Japan is much more ahead in just about every field. Know why? Because they prize edicuation a hell lot more then we do.

Considering that I don't watch tv on my phone, it's ok. Considering I don't have a need for 10+ megapixel camera on my phone, it's ok, too. I have 3 different ways to charge my phone, at work & home & in my car, I don't really worry about my cell phone running out of juice either. 3g basically gives you better service on data side & I have laptop I carry around so I can live without 3g phones, too. My 3g blackberry works fine for what I need it to do. I personally don't want to pay anything online anyway. I usually call the company & talk to a live person when I pay my bills over the phone so no need for that either. Come to think of it, I don't need my cell phone all that much except for, well, what it does best, to talk on it. I do use my cell phone for work, too. I use somewhere between 2,500 - 3,500 minutes a month on talking, 2,000 - 3,000 text messages, not counting emails I get on it, and 45 - 50 meg of data. And my little blackberry does handle all that very well without a glitch, ok may be except for occasional glich here & there but not enough to really complain about it. If you really wanna talk about technologies, somebody will always have better technology. I know that L.G. makes internet applinaces, like fridge, range, air conditonher, toasters & other household appliances & they've been up & running for some time now in Korea as well as other Asian countries. I do think it's about demands rather than capabilities. If there hasn't been enough demands in U.S., it would be a waste to put money into something that's gonna flop in the market. It's not that U.S. as a country is not capable of making or putting those technology to use, statistically, there may not be enough demands yet.

Japan is always leaps and bounds ahead in terms of technology. The way I see it, there's not a lot that I as a consumer can do to fix the problem: I can't exactly afford to buy a Japanese cell phone, and if I could, it wouldn't work on my network here most likely anyway.

Honestly, the only way that you're likely to be able to take full advantage of the Japanese technology is to move to Japan. If you can afford to do it, then good for you, but personally I can't!

(As much as I would like to, given that I spend way too much of my time being entertained by things that originated in Japan!)
