Hamsters climbing the cage |
| |
| If my hamster keeps on climbing the cage what does it mean? Is the hamster just playing or is begging to come out of the cage? I really want to now what is the cause of this behavior. I really need to know why do they do this? As far as I know the cage was really a big one and it has lots of wheels. I have this so called hamster city connected by tubes. | | | | | |

| | I remember how mine used to escape all of the time. It was annoying trying to search under every nook and cranny. I remember I was about eight years old, and my hamster escaped his cage. For two weeks we couldn't find him. Then one day I was looking for something else, and suddenly this gray ball of fur scampered out, and we chased him through the house. We finally managed to catch him and put him back into his cage. He wasn't happy about that though. For an eight year old at the time though, I was surprised to see he was alive and still well fed. But now I figured he managed to get his food by gnawing through boxes and the bags. | | | |

| | he'd probably like to go for a run. be careful where you let him out though - hamster often disappear under things and it is very difficult to find them again. at the moment i have rats not hamsters and when they want something they make it very clear but i think they communicate better with people than hamsters. when they go out and want to go back in the cage they come over and try to get my attention. they also come when i whistle but i doubt you can train hamsters to do this... | | | | | | |

| | Hamsters do like to run, being most active at night, and they can be trained if the owner is willing to work with them. One of my hamsters knew his name, and would always come to me when I called him. The other two did not. I miss that little hamster though. He was gold colored and blind in one eye from an accident. At times he would sit on my shoulder when I walked through the house, behaving more like a parrot. I doubt I'll ever own another hamster like him. In fact I doubt I'll ever own another hamster again. | | | |

| | I've had quite a few hamsters while growing up, and hamsters can actually become very bored in their cages if they are not given anything to do, or if they do the same thing over and over. Often people will put those wheels inside or tubes, but sometimes a hamster just likes to get out and explore new surroundings. I suggest getting your hamster one of those Run About Balls if you don't have one already. Just place him inside, secure the door, and let him roll about on the floor for a while. One of my hamsters was notorious for getting out of his cage, but for some reason, he admired me a lot, and always came out of hiding when I called his name. So yes, hamsters can be intelligent, but most like to do their own thing. However, when I bought him a Run About Ball, he stopped his escapes. | | | | | | |

| | I think they like to try to escape as a game to them.I used to have hamsters when I was a kid,and they used to climb the water bottle and push up the lid with their hand.I did have a couple escape, but I don't remember ever finding them. | | | | | | |
