How has the world changed since you were a child? |
| |
| Since I was a child the world has changed so much.I was a child in the 70's.I remember children spend their day out doors back then.Today I noticed they stay inside. There was no internet when I was a child.I remember Atari came out then. The first home video games were Odessey and then Atari.Atari became popular.Since there wasn't many indoor activities like today,I used to spend my day riding my bike around the neighborhood.I also noticed when I was a child ,there were alot of payphones around. Now it's hard to find one because cell phones came out and replaced them.where I live they removed all the payphones here. What things have changed since you were a child? | | | | | |

| | The world has definitely changed since I have been a child! I remember playing board games with my brothers and sisters as a family. Now kids prefer to sit all day on the computer with less interaction. When I was a child, I would also go outside and play all day with my friends. Now it seems with more technical gadgets and gizmos, kids prefer to play alone with their electronic companions. I also use to bike around the neighborhood, and nwadays it seems kids are less active and obese. | | | | | | |

| | I remember my first computer was a Commodore 128D and it was safe back then to walk the streets without having to worry about child molesters. Now days you have to know where your children are at all times because of the sick people who are in this world. The very bad thing is they are now in the schools, churches, etc etc. I also remember the Beta players and when VHS came out as well as cassette tapes. Wow this discussion has just made me realize my age. lol. | | | | | | |

| | That also has changed,I don't want my daughter walking the neighborhood as I used to,because when I did there weren't many child predators, like today.I used to go far from home on my bike, but then it was alot safer to do that. | | | |

| | That is so true.I remember people were much friendlier than they are today.I have to say where I live the neighbors here aren't friendly at all. They were so mean to me here. They don't like me living in their neighborhood.I agree, the world is too dangerous to really walk around in .It was safe when I was a kid,I used to go far from my house, but that's when you didn't have to be worried about child predators. | | | |

| | I remember those things, too. We didn't wear bicycling helmets or kneepads, our playgrounds had gravel and cement and if we misbehaved in public our moms could swat us without fear of being reported as child abusers. There was a child molestor in my neighborhood but I didn't know it--Mom and Dad and my friends' parents told us all to stay away from him. A group of dads went to talk to him and in a week he was gone. When we got new neighbors Mom baked a cake and took it over to them. People were more involved with each other back then in the 60's and 70's. Adults without jobs were thought of as shiftless and children had chores to keep them busy. Being rude to an adult was unthinkable and a sign that your parents didn't raise you well. Moms were home with the children and dads went to work--Mom always greeted us with a hug and cookies when we came home from school. We all sat down to eat dinner together. Mom cooked breakfast for us and packed our lunches. Family was very important and we all stuck together. | | | | | | |

| | That's exactly how I remember.I remember kids were scared to talk back to their parent and they listened more than today.People were so much more friendly back then.I remember alot of elderly ladies used to pay me to do yard work for them.I think families were also closer together. | | | |

| | Compared to when I was a child and we would read a book or listen toa play on the radio, things have changed for the worse. We used our imagination and had thoughts of our own. Nowadays we are supposed to sit in fromnt of the television or read an article ina newspaper or online and see the opinions of others and do we stop to even think of a different side to each story? Respect has gone out of fashion too. Everyone is in a hurry, mostly thinking of themselves. Everything now revolves around money and we are lead to believe that we must have a lot of it to be happy. When I was a child we were happy with other things like a visit froma friend or relation, flowers bursting into bloom or the smell of a home made cake in the oven. | | | | | | |

| | You are right.I did notice there are no kids outside. My neighborhood has kids in it but they rarely go out.Fashion is also terrible today,I think alot of women think they have to show themselves off to meet a guy.I think people out to dress conservative then the man will like them for who they are. | | | |

| | I grew up in the 80's and a lot of things have changed since that time. There were no cell phones or no internet, and when I went to the library I borrowed records and cassette tapes instead of cds. Instead of an ipod I had a walkman, and I loved listening to my cassette tapes. When we went shopping we used cash or checks instead of a creditcard. When we wanted to use a payphone we needed coins, you couldn't buy phonecards for payphones and there were quite a lot of payphones around the country. Most of them are gone by now, because people use there cell phones instead. When I was a child there was no bridge between Denmark and Sweden and we always had to sail to get to Sweden. | | | | | | |

| | I know I didn't have anything like today.I had a bike, that's pretty much it.I did have a tape player to liten to a tape on.They have so much out now a days, people have become so materialistic, then they spend their time indoors with the entertainment instead of getting some air in the out doors.I remember I didn't even have cable tv,we just got a couple channels in with an antennae. You are right there are alot of changes that happened throughout the years. | | | |

| | I was born in the late 1970s. When I was young, each family had two or more children, but quickly the family planning was operated and each family had only one child. We were outdoors after school, playing a lot of games, no computers and internet at that time. But we were so happy to play outside. The price of house was very cheap and people earned not much. Now when I finished college and started to work, the price of house is very high,we have to provide a loan to buy a house. The rythem of was not fast when I was young, but now the competition is stiff in each field. In China, great changes has taken place in 30 years. Especially the living stardard. We didn't have supermarket or shopping malls when I was young. But now we have international shopping centers. Cities changed a lot in China, 2008 Olympic Game is a epitome for China's development. | | | |
