Have you ever tried flax seed? I ask because my mom uses it, and she recommends I also buy some. She says if you buy flax seed as a seed, you will not get as much health benefits from it. She uses her coffee grinder to grind the flax seed, so she can sprinkle it over her cereal or oatmeal in the morning. What interests me is flax seed also has Omegas and can be used as a substitute for eggs in a recipe. This is because it has the same consistency when cooked? I would like to find a recipe calling for flax and use it in inventive and healthy ways, too. She also says if the flax seed is ground, it doesn't stay fresh as long as compared to the flax seed itself. What is your experience with flax or flax seed? Does it lower blood pressure? I know my mom takes bloodpressure and throid medication. Maybe the flax seed helps counteract these conditions?

My kids like pancakes with ground flax seed in them. If you have ground flax seed then keeping it in the freezer keeps it fresh longer. Also if you buy the whole seeds keep it in the freezer and only grind how much you are going to be using.

I buy ground flax seed at Wal Mart in the baking aisle. I do put it in the refrigerator. I do not substitute it for eggs, I do sprinkle it on lots of things. I put it in pancake batter. It is high in Omega threes and it also will help with female symptoms. It is a great source of fiber.

Flax seed is an excellant supplement for your heart. I never heard of it being used as an egg substitute. I take it in capsule form and sometimes instead if that will add a T in my protein drink.
