I was watching Pawn Shop recently, and they had a lottery ticket signed by George Washington. I guess they wanted to pawn it. I am curious how much a lottery ticket signed by Goerge Washington is worth. If you found out that you owned one of these lottery tickets, would you keep a piece of history to yourself, or would you just pawn it off like it is worth nothing. I have heard of people finding things in thier basements or attics worth millions, and then they take it to businesses like "Antique Road Show" or "Pawn Stars." I would think to keep the lottery ticket, but not for myself. Instead I wouls make sure it is kept in a museum or some other like-place somewhere. I just think it is sad to pawn off such items that may have a lot of intrinsic value to the owner, simply for money.

I saw that episode. Were it me I would have sold it at least to a museum or something...there is no way a pawn shop is going to give you anywhere near what it's worth. And then there is that historical factor. I would like to see it wind up in a museum or a collector who is going to better apreciate the historical value of it.

I'm doing a friend request with you because I would like to chit chat from time to time about music and guitars and stuff like that. Thanks in advance.

I heard the commercial for the episode but I didn't see it. If I found some thing like that, yes I would sell it because I am not a collector of that sort of thing. But I wouldn't pawn it. I would have it auction at some place like Christie's or sell it to a museum. By the way, how much did the person get for the ticket? Or didn't they sell it to the pawn shop? And what was the value of the ticket? Thanks in advance and happy mylotting.

I'd try to get an appraisal for it on the Antique Road Show. A Washington autograph has to be worth a lot of money. I mean, how much does a Babe Ruth autographed ball go for? Washington didn't play baseball as will as ol' Ruthy did, but he is still somewhat of a legendary figure in his own right(for being a President). I'd think Georges signature is worth more, but I think his on base percentage would hold him back for whatever reason.

If I were that person with the lottery ticket signed by George Washington, I would definitely have it appraised and sell at auction. Possibly Sotheby's because I don't know of any other auction place that auctions off high priced items. I might also see if I could sell it to a museum. At least at a museum you know that the item would be taken care of.

Many people are greedy, thus the desperate move to go to a pawn shop. But many people are fooled into thinking pawn shops are a "legit" business. Pawn shops are SCAMS from the get-go. I cannot believe they are being glorified on television such as in the show you speak of...Pawn shops are full of stolen items, and if you ever happen to go into a pawn shop, you will see many low income, ignorant people bringing in items to pawn (pawn shops prey on these types of people), or even worse, put on a loan...the pawn shops charge and ungoshly amount in interest on the loan they give you, where most people will get into the game and pay the minimum to "rewrite" the loan, only to, in the future, end up not paying where the pawn shop will be able to resell it...the pawn shop owners laugh all the way to the bank...stay away from them...the are SCAMS...the rental places are SCAMS also, like *ent-a-*enter...they make their money off scamming people with poor credit...

They do have a worth to the owner, whatever the value it is that they sell it for at the pawn shop. It's not like these items go into a furnace and get destroyed once they are sold. These items are sold to generally a collector of some sort who really would cherish the said item. Generally the average joe doesn't care too much about a little piece of paper with a signature written on it, and they could probably benefit a lot more from the money, while they object goes to someone that could appreciate it more. It's actually rather simple. Personally if I found an object that was worth a lot, and I was not a collector, and needed money, I too would sell it to a collector of some sort.
