| | It could very well be the cable. Then again it could be the connector where the cable plugs in on your disk. Those work their way loose sometimes. It is hard to identify because it is just inside the disc box. My best to you. Don't give up yet. | | | |

| | jamesnitp, 1. You may want to check if you have inserted the cables correctly. 2. Check if there's a problem with the current USB port. Plug it into another port to check. Also check if the connections at both ends are good. 3. Go into your OS Disk Management if you had disabled auto detection. 4. You may want to try connecting with another computer. The above should be able to give you some answers, failing which it will be your portable device being "fried" where you will need to bring it to the manufacturers. It is remote that your hard-disk is wrecked but I am of opinion that the fault lies with the accessory. So, go to your dealer or the authorized service center for your product. Take care. | | | |

| | Warranty coverage. Honestly, I just do not think so, how do you expect them to? Other than covering for the product to fail by itself due to QC of parts and the product as a whole,everything else is no ob la. I am not sure what had happened but if you need the data recovery services, I would advocate that you do not further delay your sending your portable hard disk device to them. Lastly, if data is your priority I'd advise that you thread carefully. There is a possibility that Transcend warranty replacement will replace the entire receptacle and hard disk which will mean kissing your data goodbye. Then, they might (HIGH POSSIBILITY) reformat your hard disk first to test if the fault could actually be due to a malicious virus you've picked up. So, with the above 2 you are definitely going to loose your data. So, it will depend how much is your data worth saving because data recovery will need to remove the hard disk within the receptacle to perform the recovery and in the process break the product seal and render the product warranty invalid. This last issue is really about cost here and you will need to sacrifice big time. Sounding from you, I feel that you really want your data but is it going to worth sacrificing your newly bought device + cost of recovery (which is expensive) would be your consideration. If there's no way of obtaining back your data through other means i.e. from the original source then, please decide and do the needful for your data. I am sorry for your plight but I think you will need to decide on your own for this one. Take care. P.S. Please consider some virtual storage for your important data next time and be assured of a non repeat of this incident. | | | |

| | jamesnitp, I am sorry to hear that you had lost your painstaking and invaluable data. This is so unfortunate and hope that you will be able to come up with a better backup next time round. I hope that you need not pay a cent for the new replacement and the mishap will not happen again. On the hindsight, I am wondering if virtual storage sites and the future cloud computing might be of great additional help to you. | | Try another USB cable if you can find one that will plug into the device. That external hard drive is a VERY reliable gadget. Certainly it could have failed (nothing is unbreakable) but most likely it is just a connection, either external or internal. | | | |
