My store jet elite 320 gb portable external hard-disk is not detected by any PC   

Well, I have tried it all but nothing seems to work.

Most of all even the led indicator on it is not lighting.

Can there be some problem with the cable.

It could very well be the cable. Then again it could be the connector where the cable plugs in on your disk. Those work their way loose sometimes. It is hard to identify because it is just inside the disc box. My best to you. Don't give up yet.

Well, I have tried all and now I am thinking to bring it to notice to the transcend company.

Will I be able to get back all of my data on my portable hard disk. I really want that data. It is the last copy of all my data.

I have tried it connecting to various computers.

How to check if the connections at both ends are good or not?

I need serious help or I am doomed.

Bring it down to either the dealer where you bought this or the service center to have it checked out.

It is remote that your hard-disk is wrecked but I am of opinion that the fault lies with the accessory. So, go to your dealer or the authorized service center for your product.

Can you get another cable and connect it to the computer?

If not, there's no other alternative other than to visit an authorized dealer to try out with another cable.

Well, sure I have this option and I am thinking of giving this option a try. Lets see if the new cable can help me connect my portable hard disk to the computer.

In case this still doesn't work, then it would be a faulty receptacle which means that you will need to see your authorized dealer or service center.

If your hard-disk is not "fried" or "infected", then I don't see any problems with your stored data.

Even if it is being infected by virus, you can still recover your data (provided you have not reformatted your HD) by sending it to a recovery center. But, please be warned that the price will not be cheap considering the size of your hard-disk. Also, since there are viruses that attacks data to remove traces of the hacker's signature - there will bound to have some data loss.

Honestly, I just do not think so, how do you expect them to?

Other than covering for the product to fail by itself due to QC of parts and the product as a whole,everything else is no ob la.

I am not sure what had happened but if you need the data recovery services, I would advocate that you do not further delay your sending your portable hard disk device to them.

Lastly, if data is your priority I'd advise that you thread carefully. There is a possibility that Transcend warranty replacement will replace the entire receptacle and hard disk which will mean kissing your data goodbye.

Then, they might (HIGH POSSIBILITY) reformat your hard disk first to test if the fault could actually be due to a malicious virus you've picked up. So, with the above 2 you are definitely going to loose your data.

So, it will depend how much is your data worth saving because data recovery will need to remove the hard disk within the receptacle to perform the recovery and in the process break the product seal and render the product warranty invalid. This last issue is really about cost here and you will need to sacrifice big time.

Sounding from you, I feel that you really want your data but is it going to worth sacrificing your newly bought device + cost of recovery (which is expensive) would be your consideration. If there's no way of obtaining back your data through other means i.e. from the original source then, please decide and do the needful for your data.

I am sorry for your plight but I think you will need to decide on your own for this one.

I am sorry to hear that you had lost your painstaking and invaluable data. This is so unfortunate and hope that you will be able to come up with a better backup next time round.

I hope that you need not pay a cent for the new replacement and the mishap will not happen again. On the hindsight, I am wondering if virtual storage sites and the future cloud computing might be of great additional help to you. I think it is worth looking into especially when important data could have alternative and real time backups.

There is still one hope and that is that it is still in warranty period.

Yes, it gets its power from the computer through USB cable. I have tried connecting it to various computers.

Try another USB cable if you can find one that will plug into the device. That external hard drive is a VERY reliable gadget. Certainly it could have failed (nothing is unbreakable) but most likely it is just a connection, either external or internal.

It might also be a virus or something of that kind.
