| Should wanna-be require background checks for child safety?  | | | |  I was just watching the news, and I got upset when they reported that a two year old child has died in the hospital due to blunt trauma to the head. I know this may sound extreme, but it got me thinking about child safety. Since it seems anyone these days can become a parent, I think it might be a good idea to have wanna-be parents go through background checks first. This would ensure the safety of the baby-to-be, even if it might upset the parents. what is more important? This would also prevent irresponsible people from just having kids at the drop of a dime. What do you think? I know it may sound like a good idea in theory, but what about reality?

| |  sadly, the thing is that anyone CAN have a child at the drop of a hat, and sometimes it seems those who are least qualified are having the most kids!
There is an SF story going around that a time traveler goes to the future and discovers that the "average" person's IQ is now below 65... the really bright ones were about 70...
this is because the dumb ones had kids and the smart ones didn't until the human race, as a whole, was "dumbed down" to below the level where what we would call a person being mentally deficient was considered normal
