the misconception of having a "healthy tan" |
| |
| this is a huge oxymoron, a healthy tan. there is no such thing. If your skin color changes from tanning, it means you have damaged your skin. I had a friend who went to prom with a 16 inch scar on her back from getting lymph nodes removed after getting skin cancer from tanning beds..Spray tan looks nice if you dont want to be pale. I have never tanned and ive never ever laid out on a beach for hours and hours. Everything should be in moderation. yes vitamin d from the sun is great and necessary, but all it takes is a 15-30 minute walk to receive the daily recommended amount. Please be safe everyone. It's not worth it to get cancer so you can look brown, think about it. | | | | | |

| | Well, people do sacrificed quite a lot to look beautiful in their sense so tanning is no exception either. I don't get sun tan because I think brown skins don't really make you look better and possibility of getting skin cancer or sun burn is quite high. | | | | | | |

| | i agree. i have not pale but fairly light and ive never been told I look bad lol, quite the contrary. I think tan skin takes on a kind of leather like appearance after a while. | | | |

| | thank you i believe that this is a very overlooked and important topic, and especially overlooked in the US, where alot of light skinned girls like to tan to extreme dark shades. My boyfriend is puerto rican and he has an excellent perfect tan year round and he barely goes in the sun!lol imagine waking up to that every morning...anyway, i cant get myself to join in. especially on the jersey shore where i live, alot of girls look the same- dark tan, from beds or the sun, bleached out hair and teeth.. the whole bit..id much rather not look like a clone.. | | | |

| | tanning too much is not all that good for the skin and the body. but tanning enough to wear it gets you a healthy glowing look is good for the skin in my opinion. some people just take it too far. which i can understand.. tanning can be addicting to some people. | | | | | | |

| | i believe that any change in your skin color is considered damage, especially young people because their cells divide much more than older people as they are still growing and tanning makes cells divide faster, which puts you at higher risk for cancer, when cells divide at a fast rate, leading to mutation. you can always spray tan or use bronzer for a healthy glow. stay healthy and thank you for your response.happy mylotting my friend!! | | | |
