How to remove adhesive |
| |
| I have a couple acrylic sweaters that had a fur trim that I removed. Unfortunately besides being sewn on, it was also glued and I have no idea what kind of glue, I am guessing a sort of fabric glue. Is there anything I can use to remove the adhesive without harming the sweater itself? | | | | | |

| | Have you tried just soaking it in water, and then using your fingernails to take the glue off, or maybe just putting it through the wash cycle? | | | | | | |

| | I think it is some kind of fabric glue the clothes manufactor uses because I have washed it and it is not coming off. | | | |

| | This is what Id do. Id use lighter fuel and dab it very lightly and sort of rub at the same time. Now, be sure you're not smoking while doing this and you'll need to wash your sweater after. Its always worked for me. Hope it'll work for you. | | | | | | |

| | Thanks Magic, I hope we still have some, we stopped smoking years ago so we have no need for light fluid.. | | | |

| | carmelanirel did you try googling it to find out how to get rid of fabric glue, Sometimes hair spray will remove chewing gum so it might work on fabric glue but I would test first on inside seam of sweater for any adverse action on the acrylic sweater material, I am going to yahoo and mylot search to see if there is some good way to do this. | | | | | | |

| | hi aagain the one I found said to scrape as much of the residue off with a knife then use glycerin to soften it and scrape off the rest of the glue and wash with dish detergent in warm water. don't know if it will help but that was what I read. | | | |

| | You can try peanut butter, peanut butter works on a lot of sticky things, it shouldn't stain but you might want to try it on an unseen area first to make sure, if it seems as if it will wash easily then saturate the area with peanut butter and then just let it set on there for a while maybe like an hour, the oils in the peonut butter will usually break up the sticky stuff, you may need to do it more than once. | | | | | | |

| | I can't see peanut butter removing fabric glue, but I did try a solution I found using dish soap and viniegar and though it removed the fake fur, the glue spots are still there. I think I'll try goo gone to finish it off.. | | | |

| | It will be a tedious job at best. Try eucalyptus oil, it's good for removing all kinds of things. | | | | | | |

| | Yes, I think it will be tedious, but I am going to try goo gone and see if that works.. | | | |
