You Know What Assuming Things Does,Right?  

I am surprised that there are people still existing who dare approach a stranger and ask personal questions. I belong where even relatives are not bothered about what I do or do not do as they have their own life to lead for which they have no time. This is the other extreme - disinterested to know whether people are dead or alive. Why cant there be a via media I wonder.

I can't believe someone would be so bold to ask you these questions. People can be so rude. I raised both my bi-racial children and I never had a comment or questions made to me. I'm sure people probably talked behind my back but nothing ever came back to me. My girls are now 29 and 31. They also never had any problems because they were bi-racial. She was being so judgemental and taking it for granted something that was so not true. I can't believe in this day and age people would have anything to say about it period. I have to say though bi-racial children are the most beautiful children on this earth and they are smarter I believe then non-bi-racial children, but thats just my opinion.

That girl is so bad. She is so insensitive with the things that she's saying. I think that she has assumed thing way of the line. don't worry Ms. Erikmama you don't have to explain to people everything as long as your confident enough that what you think is right.

I try never to assume as well, but those remarks are just typical of small-minded people. You don't owe them any explanations, years ago I would have felt rude not engaging in this conversation (even with a stranger), but nowadays if someone is badgering me about something that is none of their business I will, without a second thought, tell them so. I cannot stand small-mindness and petty conversations where people think they have the authority to assume that they are better than me.I love Ireland but we don't half have some extremely narrow-minded people.

It is shameful to ask personal questions to a stranger... One avoids asking such questions to the close buddies too; at least I do! It is such a shame that such people still exist and they talk openly about races and all... And worse, how could she assume all those ridiculous and disgusting things about 'gang' and all... It is terrible! had I been in your place, I'd have told her a thing or two, for her rudeness. Simply avoid further conversation with such people, that's what we can do, gently...

I can't even imagine walking up to someone and asking such questions. Like you said, it is no one's business and why in the world does anyone need to know those things about a stranger? It's just a sign of ignorance when people make assumptions about a person or their personal life without knowing a darn thing about the person. I get it a lot (or used to) because I had 4 children and their last names were different than each other and mine. They assumed I slept around and had kids by all different men and was on welfare etc etc. The truth is that I was married twice...once when I was real young and then again later on. After my 2nd marriage ended, I went back to my maiden name. I had a nurse one time ask me, "Don't you guys get confused with different last names?" Um, no but it appears that you do. Geez.

I think it is totally rude that people make those questions, I have experienced those things myself also, even when I am white, I am from Latin America, i have Spanish accent and all those things. Some people as soon as they hear me speaking they automatically think that I don't have a job, that I am illegal, or that I live in a crappy place, but at the moment that they realize that I am engineer I can see the face of surprise of everybody, because they can't believe it. Some people like to stereotype and they are incapable to think that race or ethnicity have nothing to do with the ability of any person to find prosperity and work hard in this society.

I cannot believe that some people could still comment on other people regarding these tings. What did you feel at that very moment? I'd feel hurt if I were in our place. But at the same time, thoughts that would be running at the back of my head would be, that person does not know me and that one day she will deserve the same treatment she did to me. Even if people assume things about you, just don't mind but still chin up and stick with the thought that nobody messes up with your kids!

I believe that it is rude and disrespectful to asked certain racial questions in life. I have a girlfriend and two children whom I love with everything in me, but because my two kids have straighter hair and I am black and my girlfriend is black, some people will ask certain questions that make you feel kinda uncomfortable. Like are you the children's father? I can't stand that one. If they only knew that I am part Indian and my girlfriend has a great grandmother that was Indian. I feel that we should not judge one another because you never know what the real truth is.
