Curse Of The Single Supplement  

SAD (seasonal affective disorder) seasonal in that you can get SAD in any season not just winter. Maybe it's me, I'm weird but I am far happier in the Winter months. Maybe I should have been born in Iceland or Scandinavia. But I loathe the Summer. I have also wanted to go to Sweden and New Zealand but it's the plane journey that puts me off and I dread to think how much they'd charge me for single supplement going that distance!

Then I probably had SAD when I lived in the desert. I would get so depressed because of the constant sun and no variation in weather. I'm much happier now that I live where there are 4 seasons!

Traveling by air is more trouble than it's worth these days and it's much more fun to go by bus or train, in my opinion.

I, too, was a little surprised to hear of someone suffering from SAD in the summer but your explanation (and Dragon's experience) sounds logical.

I had heard of people who got SAD during the summer because of the constant heat and discomfort, more than the light, but whatever causes it, I believe it, and sometimes have found that I have it. I am mellowing out more both directions as I get older.

Maybe it's worth me doing a discussion about it to find out if I am NOT the only one out there. I wish I could grow out of it but my moods are awful in the Summer months. I wish I could hibernate, maybe I should have been born in Iceland or Scandanivia, knowing my luck had I of been born there and I would of hated the cold instead PMSL. Thanks guys ;0)

Thank you for explaining that to me. Maybe I should eat double the food to make up for the price PMSL. If they ask why my plate is piled high I shall say it's a supplement ;0)

Working in the hotel business (In Ireland!),food and lodging account for only a relatively small part of the business profits-There's more profit in the drinks sold in the Bars! It depends on the time of the year and the week too...much more business happens in the summer,and at weekends,(weddings,functions and such,)so there are fewer rooms available,and Hoteliers would be reluctant to give up the chance of a double occupancy in a room for the increased profit margin,so they'll slap on a surcharge for the lone traveller..Aren't there groups that cater to travelling singles that can negotiate against supplements?

Told you I was weird, that is why cupid doesn't come my way he doesn't want to get what I've got, it's contagious so he keeps away like the plague. Maybe that's another discussion SAD in the summer months, ;0)

It's a downright cheek and liberty taker, but they know they've got you by the short and curlies, figuratively speaking naturally. Well they've lost my custom, they said it wasn't the coach companies fault it was down to the hotels. Well put me up in a B&B instead then, I don't care as long as it's got a bed and NO single supplement. I'd even sleep in a caravan if it meant saving £433 thank you very much.

My therapist said it was a magnificent idea, just have to rethink the location. Either that or hibernate during the Summer months, in my next life I either want to be born in Iceland or Scandinavia or come back as an arctic animal. Knowing my luck in my next life I'll hate the cold instead and live in Iceland PMSL!

I don't care where I sleep as long as I've got a bed. After all you don't spend much time in your room when you are on holiday or travelling do you? Yeah and knowing my luck the guy would be a heavy snorer, an insomniac or a drunk. I wonder I broke a hall of mirrors in my previous life PMSL!

Oooopss I have to add to that, when I said I don't care where I sleep as long as I've got a bed, I meant to say ALONE! I don't share my bed with anyone or anything PMSL

PMSL? That's a new one on me. Don't tell me what it is if it is something I'd rather not know.

Trouble is it's the hotels that stick on the single supplements rather than the coach tour company. Maybe I should take my tent with me LOL

Most of the hotels here just charge for the room, they don't care how many people are in them.

Just bear in mind the Giant's Causeway is in the North of the Country,if You're planning a tour of the south!

Thanks for the best response my friend. I really appreciate it. I will be flying to Vancouver this summer with my toddler son and baby daughter. When my son was a baby I took him for a long weekend to Northumberland. We stayed in a tiny single room with his travel cot on the floor.

I have scrapped Ireland and I have scrapped using the coach company, I have decided to go travelling like I did in 2006, just me and my car, and book in guest houses en route. I did 5 weeks of Scotland then, this time I want to do South Wales, in particular Tenby and Aberystwyth. I have never been to Cheltenham or Gloucester so I will pay those places a visit. So that will solve the problem and I also get the independence too. But Gissi would be welcome LOL ;0)

Last year my son and I visited beautiful Tenby. It is a lovely place for you to visit my friend. I hope to visit Cheltenham and Gloucester soon because I live within a day trip sort of distance from them.
