What are the Art Centers of the United States?

When you think 'art', what cities do you think of? On the coasts, I think Los Angeles and New York. But what about the Midwest? What are the art centers of the Midwest?

My hometown is in the Midwest, and is really developing its underground and street-level art scene. The people here want to put our town on the map. I'm not going to tell yuou the city, because I'm wondering if anyone will mention it. When I think about it, I don't see any particular city in the Midwest as a major contendor for a Top Art Center in the US! What do you think?

When I think of our local art center- I think of a small, community oriented place where our local artists exhibit and sell their work. I used to clean the nearest one-Art Center Sarasota, and they also offered classes-including children's summer camps. It was an exciting place to go every night w00t
I'm not an artist per se-I'm a poet/aspiring writer..but I love to see the different views through other's eyes.
Say... lol are you from Casey, Illinois That's where I came from and 20 years ago-it wasn't on the map-I used to love that...I think it is now though.
