Here is a bigger image of the same pic. I think I saw one as a child in a woman's house at some point, too. Never knew what it was, at the time.

I knew that in the 1800s only a physician had them .. and treated women for "hysteria".. lol. Even in the late 20th century in nursing homes, a doctor might order a vibrator for the patient to use in the privacy of their bathroom or bedroom. I remember one doctor ordering one on the chart for one. I remember the nurses kind of giggling over it.

I know my doctor pretty well..he is from Spain and speaks 4 languages but I doubt very sincerely if he would speak that one with me, although he is head of internal medicine at the hospital!

Well, you don't necessarily have to go to your family dr, you know. There are plenty of other doctors out there. You never know. *giggles*

They have soooo many different models nowadays to suit any possible preference. I have a Rabbit and a Chubby. They are unbelievable! Certainly way less work than manual, if your arm is tired. Or your hubby is tired.

I agree. It did say that sometimes the husband's were recruited to help, but only after the Dr. and subsequently the midwife got tired of having to 'administer' the treatment so often if it took too long.

I agree Hatley. The men of that era didn't think women were sexual beings at all. So, they didn't need satisfying.

Apparently, if some women were hard to 'treat' (it took a long time) then, the Dr. would get the midwives to do it, and if they got tired of doing it, then sometimes they would recruit the husband to do it. AND they still insisted it was not sexual in any way.

Men thought the earth was flat and only they had sexual thoughts. Women were supposed to banish such thoughts from thier mind as being unladylike. And they wonder why so many women still today are sexually repressed.
