Is condom an appropriate party giveaway?  |

I have just received a call from my cousin in law and she was furious. She permitted her 13 year old daughter to attend her classmate's birthday party yesterday and her daughter brought home a party give away. The party give away was a small jewelry box (one that you get at craft stores) and inside it was 2 pieces of condoms in bright fun colors and it is flavored, it says bubblegum and cherry! In addition to that was a note saying "reserve this for your first time. have fun!" My cousin said all the parents who had their children attend that party was mad and they planned to file a formal complain against the parents of the birthday celebrant in the school. Do you think it's alright to give away condoms on children's party? What's your stand on this?

| |  You are definitely right. They need to talk first to the family so it will be clear out. But it will be their decision if they want to file a formal complain. If I were on their shoes I will feel the same thing for my kid especially if i have a daughter. I will not let my daughter come close to that kid anymore. Peace and God bless

| |  Unfortunately in this day and age a Doctor will most likely see many young teenagers and pre-teens coming into their office pregnant. The number of this age group having kids is rising at a rate that would spin your head. Google it and you will see what I mean. What is reported online and in the news is only a small amount of the pregnancies that happen. I do not agree with what these parents did as I believe it is the children's parents who should teach these things but I do get why they did it.

| |  Giving condoms to a 13-year-old? That's appalling! I think it would have been wrong, even if they'd been 25. After all, you don't necessarily know the views of other people on matters like these. Apart from the very young age of the party-goers, many could have been offended for religious reasons. 13-year-olds shouldn't be worrying about "their first time" - they should still be having fun and friendship. What were the party-throwers thinking? Surely they knew they would upset lots of people. Perhaps that was the intention.

| |  It is supposedly a joke but it was not in the right place and wrong crowd. I think the youngsters nowadays are more daring and their behavior is uncalled for. I would never allow my kids to attend to parties like that as it is giving children the wrong signal. As a parent, I am furious if my daughter is given such an adult thing for a party giveaway. It is supposed to be a children party and should revolve around children themes.
