Is Lenny kravitz the only existing black rocker? |
| |
| Most black singers were either rappers or RNB artist, I had seen some soul singers too but I never saw a black rockstar aside from Lenny Kravitz. Who plays guitar and rocks the crowd. I consider Lenny Kravitz as one of my musical influences when it comes to building rock ballads. Is he the only black rockstar that exist in this world? there were lots of White, hispanic and even Asian rockstars but it seemed like Lenny is alone in this Category. | | | | | |

| | Lots of white girls were into blackmen. It may have nothing to do with him being a rockstar. | | | |

| | There are blacks that are good looking like Will smith and Denzel Washington among others. Seal is nowhere near them on the looks department so i think that it's his being a rockstar that made him hot to the girls eyes. A local example is the lead singer of Parokya ni Edgar. Chito is not good looking but just take a look at Kaye Abad. wheeewww. I think that's the good thing about being a rockstar, you have no choice but become a certified chick magnet. | | | |

| | Don't know your age but Prince did rock way before "Let's Go Crazy", though he is mostly categorized as an R&B artist. He doesn't get the airplay that he once did but he still isn't afraid to put down a few licks. Other than that, I see your point. My roommate refuses to believe that Lenny had other songs besides "It Ain't Over...", when I play the Are You Gonna Go My Way CD he claims it must have been a dud. There's a documentary that comes on the Ovation channel (if you have satellite or digital cable but I think it's on DVD, too) called Electric Purgatory. It features interviews with Black rockers like Fishbone (I was fortunate to see them live in the mid-80s) and goes back to Chuck Berry in the 50s. It also has some raw footage of Prince back in the early 80s when he took took a New Wave/Punk angle with some of his music. http://www.electricpurgatory.com Also, there's a radio program in L.A. called Chocolate City with Garth Trinidad. He plays some rare Lenny. And Prince, Sly and a lot of underground folks. Thing is that he also mixes in 70s R&B B-sides, neo-soul and international music (I believe he himself is from the Carribean) Anyway, his streaming podcast is worth checking out at http://www.kcrw.org | | | | | | |
