Anime vs. Cartoons.

Sis I just wanna let you know I just bought Cars today, and it cost me $23.83 crying out loud:(( in the Philippines an original one like this is only about 5 bucks. I don't really know the difference between anime and cartoon, sometimes, I do think they are jus the same. Thanks for the info...I think you're really smart. But please I hope I can see some other started discussions of yours which is more easier for me to respond:( something like a poll question ehhehe LOL.

Yup. That's it. Language. Basically it seperates what is a cartoon, versus an anime.

Alrighty....Let's look at some of the titles here....Pokemon, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh!... In Japanese, these all have a geenral serious sense. Soem comedy is thrown in, but mostly it's actually really serious. Though when turned into English, they lose a lot of that seriousness for comedy. This is because it's too ridiculous to sell to middle aged folk as serious, and it would go over children's heads. So to make it easier, they make it funny, and then throw it at gullible children. -Nods-

Now look at Naruto. This is another great example. Japanese Naruto has much violence, blood, and swearing. Why? Because that's what ninjas are all about.

Now in English it's pretty much about the same thing, but they cut things out. Blood is taken out more often, and even the slightly yaoi scene in the series is totally cut out, replaced by a black screen with a kissing noise....Lame. But mostly they transform it into a funny kind of show, taking out almost all seriousness. Mostly this is because they decided to give Naruto a catch phrase...."Believe it."

He says this probably about seventeen times every episode, or so I've been told. How can you take the show seriously with a stupid little kid saying "Beleive it" every few seconds, and after every sentence? I sure can't.

Now yes, I realize that there are many good animes that aren't so bad in English. But that's usually because they've just been dubbed, rather than redone. So in a sense, they're still Japanese, just with English voices.

And thus ends my rant. Yup yup.

Wooh! Very nicely put, you voiced what's going through my mind at times too. Though some cartoons (simpsons, american dad, family guy) aren't meant for kisa either. I'm a manga girl myself, and haven't watched a lot of anime, but I love to draw it. And it really makes me upset when people say that anime isn't real art and takes no skills. It's true that a lot of beginner artists prefer drawing anime because there's less detail, but just check out http://kaze-hime.deviantart.com or http://shirotsuki.deviantart.com and tell me that didn't take skill.

Good point for sure, people has to understand that anime are not just childlish animation, but they can be valid as any other show (and metter of most of them).

Just wanted to say few things.
Hentai is not really "porno", it sounds so offensive...a real Hentai is soft erotic animation...a lot of websites call hentai s a lot of things which aren't. There's another category of more "strong" adult animes, but, sorry, at the moment i just cannot remember the name.

Anyway...people doesn't have to think animes as adult things just 'cause there things like hentai or porn animes...there are a lot of anime not for children, but not concerning sexuality. You gave just some of thousands valid names, I could add a lot, but I think it would be useless.

You talked about violence, sexuality, etc... it makes sound them as rubbish.
Animes (the most part of them) are just concerning the same (and more and better) themes of the movies you all watch in tv or at the cinema, and they are not for sure worste than real actor ones.
