Catholic Bishops opposition to the Senate’s version of the health care bill | | | | I was a little confused to read a post the Catholic church condones abortion and supports Obamacare. My family way back are Catholic,my friend sister is Catholic when she was 5 months pregnant with her third child 7 years ago, the doctor told her the child had no brain. Because of her Catholic beliefs she carried the child full tern of course the baby boy did not live. I don't agree with this but that was her choice hard as it was because she is a life long devoted Catholic. Below is a article from health care it clearly say's the Catholic church not only dose not condone abortion they do not support Obamcare because it allows for funding for abortion. (Abortion is forbid in the Catholic church) Thursday, March 18, 2010 Hard Habit to Break: 'Nuns' vs. the Health-Care Bill [Kathryn Jean Lopez] Yesterday, much was made of a rehashed statement from a left-leaning group of religious sisters in support of the health-care legislation sans Stupak before Congress. This morning, another group of religious sisters, representing some of the most vibrant, growing congregations in the U.S., have released a different kind of press release: Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious P.O. Box 4467 · Washington, D.C. 20017-0467 Telephone: (202) 832-2575 · FAX: (202) 832-6325 · E-mail: cmswr@ix.netcom.com In a March 15th statement, Cardinal Francis George, OMI, of Chicago, president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, spoke on behalf of the United States Bishops in opposition to the Senate’s version of the health care legislation under consideration because of its expansion of abortion funding and its lack of adequate provision for conscience protection. March 17, 2010 In a March 15th statement, Cardinal Francis George, OMI, of Chicago, president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, spoke on behalf of the United States Bishops in opposition to the Senate’s version of the health care legislation under consideration because of its expansion of abortion funding and its lack of adequate provision for conscience protection. Recent statements from groups like Network, the Catholic Health Association and the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) directly oppose the Catholic Church’s position on critical issues of health care reform. The Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious, the second conference of Major Superiors of Women Religious in the United States, believes the Bishops’ position is the authentic teaching of the Catholic Church. Protection of life and freedom of conscience are central to morally responsible judgment. We join the bishops in seeking ethically sound legislation. Mother Mary Quentin Sheridan, R.S.M. President On behalf of the Membership of the Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious The Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious, by the way, represent over 100 religious congregations who live in community and wear habits. They're known to have waiting lists of young women attracted to their traditional form of religious life. 03/18 10:22 AMShare http://healthcare.nationa... | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |

| | Where did you read that "the Catholic church condones abortion and supports Obamacare"? I'm very surprised if such a post exists that I somehow missed it. I do know one group of nuns came out in support of the health care bill and stated in a letter that they considered it to be the true pro-life stance but I've always known the bishops were against it. They've apparently fallen for the same LIES that others have fallen for, such as that hypocrite Bart Stupak, that the Senate bill allows for federal funding of abortion. I suppose we could have this argument until we're all blue in the face but it's very clearly stated that the current law will be upheld has it has been for three decades. I found Stupak's comments about how he doesn't listen to the nuns but to the bishops and "Focus on the Family" especially sexist and offensive. Annie | | | | | | | | | | $20 Health Insurance? | | I know that the Catholic Church is against abortion. Your friend's sister found out that her baby didn't have a brain. I admire her for continuing her pregnancy. In my home country abortion is available until 24 weeks pregnancy. Then after that it is only allowed if the baby is severely disabled or the mother's life is in danger. So Obama's Care pays for abortions therefore the Catholic Church wouldn't support it. I was offered an abortion at 36 weeks pregnancy. I said no way and let my son be born. He has got hydrocephalus so he has had a shunt fitted in his head. He has also got spina bifida so that made him get deformed legs and feet. It also means he has to have catheter care. I love my dear little son. | | | | | | | anniepa (11669)

| | No, Obama's care doesn't pay for abortion, that's a misconception to some because others are lying! My heart goes out to the woman whose baby had no brain but I don't really think that was a "pro-life" issue, in all honesty, because without a brain there really isn't a life. What I'm trying to say is that you would think the Catholic Church would realize the difference there. Annie | | | | | | | Emergency Medical Care Save Time in Emergencies! | | Rose, you said that although you did not agree with your friend's choice to have the deformed child but you respected her decision. As a pro-choice Catholic that is EXACTLY how I feel about abortion. I think it is abominable but I respect the right of any woman facing that choice to come to her own decision. Pro-choice is NOT pro-abortion and most Catholics get that. Also, most Catholics are strongly in favor of separating church and state which makes us less likely to ram our personal morality down everybody else's throat. | | | | | | | | | | Local Abortion Clinics Find Abortion Clinics Near You.
