Do pawn shops buy used electronics? |
| |
| Has anybody ever taken good, used, electronics to a pawn shop? Do they even buy that kind of stuff? I was curious because I have a couple of printers (not old, just didn't like them) and I thought about taking them to a pawn shop. I was thinking I'd rather do that than stick an ad in the paper. | | | | | |

| | It totally depends on the equipment and on the pawn shop. IF they have an over abundance of some things they may give a real low price for it. Some might not take certain types of electronics. It just depends on the pawn shop. I would call ahead. | | | | | | |

| | Thanks MacD! Never thought about overabundance playing into it. Yes, a call ahead certainly is in order before I drag this stuff over there. | | | |

| | Every pawn shop is different so check with your local shop to see. Most only take antique electronics that are still in working order. Radios are their biggest call. But some of them do have a section for computers and appliances, it mostly depends on the size of the shop and if they have a call for those kind of items. | | | | | | |

| | Since I've only ever been in one during my whole life, lol, it never hit me that each shop would have different types of stuff they'd take. Good hint though about the antique electronics in working order, I've got some of those too. Hehehe, you might call my one closet: Joys antiquated media room. I even have a few of my one uncles old radios from the 50's that still work. Tnx! | | | |

| | Although i have never sold any items to pawn shops, I have been to a few pawn shops to see what they had for sale. My guess would be that, yes, they do accept electronics. Every paen shop i have ever been to sold electronics, and i am pretty sure that all of the items that they sell are things bought off of people who come in and sell them. I think you would be able to sell those printers, but you probably won't get a whole lot for them. You should really try putting a post up on craigslist. I do very well selling items off of craigslist, and i think you'd have a good chance of selling those printers! | | | | | | |

| | Good thought about Craigslist. Didn't really think about them. I had thought about Freecycle-ing them, but heck, I'd like to at least get a little of recoup from them since they still work great. Will have to do a little search online and see what similar is bringing pricewise. | | | |

| | Good point about being top of the line and current. Geez, I only got one notification from MyLot about responses, then came in and found 5, maybe there was a glitch yesterday or something or I would have gotten back to this discussion much earlier. Thanks for the input! | | | |

| | Hey, how ya doin'?! Yeah, I guess a call first would be a good idea. You know, I never really gave Craig's a thought. I've read so many different articles saying people got scammed that I didn't really consider them at all. Gee,I'm going to have to get one of those digital cameras one of these days soon. (Maybe if I get some bucks from selling my 'stuff.') Always good to know that it's not a total scamming place. I will def have to keep them in mind next time we get a stray that has kittens! Resale shops, hadn't thought about them either, there's one uptown here I'll have to stop by and check it out. Thanks! | | | |

| | Well as far as I know, these type of places do buy things like this. The only thing I would think is depending on how old they are, even if they are like new is it would be hard to get much from them. I know I have sometimes wondered the same thing, but usually try selling the item firsthand to someone else. | | | | | | |
