Lady Drivers Prefer Automatic Transmission in Cars |
| |
| I think the typical gear stick transmission is getting out of vogue. Ladies particularly do not fancy driving a car where you have to use a clutch to engage gears. They say it is much more kinder to the feet. Today, even men prefer auto transmission. They say it is good for driving in town especially in heavy jammed thoroughfares. The manual transmission system needs an adept coordination of gear and clutch which is not easy to attain if you are not familiar with such cars. What kinds of transmission cars are you driving and which do you prefer? Auto or manual? | | Traditional Manual Gear System | | | | |

| | I have only ever driven an automatic car once... for about 8 miles when my husband fell and broke his ankle so I had to get his car home whilst he went to hospital in an ambulance. luckily, my dad was with us as I wouldn't have had a clue how to drive the thing. Changing gear is just a reflex action to me so I dont really think twice about it. The only time I wished I had auto was when I broke my left wrist. | | | | | | |

| | I prefer automatic transmission more than manual. It makes driving easy, especially when stopping on a slope or stuck in traffic jam. Nowadays, in my country, people have a choice of learning to drive with the auto transmission, unlike previously where there's only manual mode. | | | | | | |

| | A few years back, automatic transmission mostly not the favorite of man. This is because automatic transmission was slow in shifting, and not fuel efficient. On the other hand, manual transmission allows us to get mad a little bit. In manual transmission, we can hold the engine in a shift, to raise the rpm to its limit. I don't know for sure, but this habit is quite fun to some people. As time goes, automatic transmission gets more efficient, and the traffic never been crazier these days. So even man can't stand to have an automatic transmission car in his garage. But the option is widen actually. Today, we can choose manual transmission, pure automatic, automated manual, or even the smart transmission robotized gearbox. Anyway, I have used both manual and automatic transmission. | | | | | | |

| | I have an automatic pickup and car. Now, I prefer an automatic, because I'm lazy and don't want to have to mess with the clutch and gear shift. However, the pickup I just sold had a stick shift and I handled it just fine. | | | | | | |

| | I drive a manual Land Rover Defender, which I think is about as manual as you can get! However my mum has been driving automatic Range Rovers and Freelanders since the late '90s and I don't think she'd ever drive an automatic again. I have driven some autos though and I can see the benefits for when doing long distance driving or when stuck in traffic. A lot more easier and it allows you to focus on the road more. For me, I like the challenge of the gears- in a Land Rover you often engine brake to slow down, when in towns etc I barely use the footbrake, only to bring me to a steady stop from about 5mph or less. To get me to that speed I use gears only. Ofcourse when there is a sharp stop needed the brakes will be used in conjunction with engine braking. When I was taught to drive though I was never taught to engine brake, I suppose it is not as economical as just sitting in a high gear and pushing the clutch in when you are going too slow for the engine to happily idle. | | | | | | |

| | Yes when slowing down gradually to a stop you use the gears entirely to slow you down, my car has different gear ratios to most normal cars but I think the following is a basic idea of how it works. Say you are doing 50mph and you want to stop at a roundabout quite far ahead and are in 5th gear. First you take your foot off the accelerator and any other pedals and let the vehicle slow itself down, when it reaches about 40mph, select 4th gear. When it reaches about 35 or 20mph select 3rd gear. When it reaches about 15 or 10mph select 2nd gear, and have feet off pedals until u hear engine go quieter than normal idle sound, as soon as you hear that put clutch in and brake gently and you have stopped! I also use 1st gear sometimes but I rarely do it as there isnt much need, but you can actually stop the car by going into 1st. My car has no RPM gauge so I do it mostly by looking at my speedo and listening to my engine sound. When in emergencies yeah it can help to select a lower gear, but not one too low for the speed you are going- yes it would slow you down much faster but it will also wear parts of the engine very fast in that time. Maybe it would be better to brake and watch your speedo if you can and change down to a lower gear just like in what i mentioned above. Thanks for showing interest and I hope this helped you understand it a bit better. | | | |
