Call center Agent:Job for lazy people?  email this discussion to a friend?

People would sometimes comment that being in a call center is a job for lazy people. And I don't that's proper to say that for those people are working so hard to earn a living for their families and love ones. But I don't blame them nor condemn these people with their opinion because this is what they thought.

i dont think its for lazy people... its very tough task to handle some ironic customers some time.....and minimum no of calls a call center agent should take a day is very high././,so i dont think its for lazy people

happyNo job can ever be a lazy job. People think because they have jobs that needs a little bit of thinking and get massive pay, other jobs are beyond them. No matter what job you do, at least you have one. TATA.

As someone who used to be a call agaent I have a few views and thoeries on this.
When I got my job there I was not teh proper age to do anything much - maybe mcdonalds - at the age of 15. This seemed like a fairly easy job and soemthing that I could do in perfect sync with school as the work hours are prime times of 3-9 on weekdays and 10-2 on saturdays. It paid 10 dollas an hour and I only did it for a month or so as it was so pressured and difficult. Making a quota of people buying a product of beef over the phone of at least 8 people is a lot more difficult than it sounds and seems. Your mood certainly gets affected. Wen you get 14 in a day (my record) your mood is so high, so elevated that you do better. But after 2 hours of work and you just get hangup after hangup after hangup, then you get a litle tired, irritated and kind of sad. On top of that people are so rude! I understand that everyone thinks my job was to ruin their lives by calling but really, it wasnt. I just needed a pay check and screaming at me over the phone about how Im an inconsiderate b!tch to call and inturupt their lives is not what I need while at work - no one does.
On the other hadn you find those people who I called coworkers who wern't exactly role citizens. There were the pot smokers in their fourties who were looking for easy cash to party, there were the heavier, meaner, not so talenmted people who were in fact just looking for a job in general. I also knew some who were retired people and who still wanted to work (as they'd been doing it since they were 11) and this was the only place that would hire someone (pretyy good pay for a retired person, i say) and those people who had to pay for postsecondary school and support their families with the other two jobs they have.
Every job and every palce has it's groups and steriotypesof people there. All walks of life can be found everywhere so to generalize wouldnt be right of me. Just remeber that there are the lazy ones and the ones who have no other choice and the ones who are hard working and the ones who truly love over-the-phone sales.

Who told Call center agent job is for lazy peoples? I have seen my friend working 9 hours in some company. When Windows 7 was launched they work so hard even above 9 hours to support their clients.

My dear there is no job for lazy people. Call center agent is not as easy as you think. If you are lazy I don't think you can even hold a job. People that dealing with customer has to be patience, has the ability to listen to other people.

Hi newuserptc! I don't know how anyone could possibly make
a stupid statement like that! Working at a Call Center is not
an easy job! I worked as a Receptionist many times on a nine
line switchboard, and that was before voicemail and it was hard!
You have to know what you're doing and depending on what kind
of business you are working in a Call Center for it can be an
extremely difficult job! I worked for an International Rug
Seller and it was an unbelievably stressful job and the boss
was the meanest psycho alive! I had to work on holidays and
stay late and he would curse at us. And the worst part of the
job was we were made to lie to the customers which were big
named stores! The bigger the name the better the customer and
the quicker they would get the merchandise! If Bloomingales
wanted their rugs immediately and they were already promised
to a Macy's Company, the would go to the Bloomingdales customer
and the Macy's Customer would have to sometimes wait until the
next rugs were shipped from overseas!

hello there,

nah, i don't think so. i am not working in a call center but i do have friends who are working there and i know how much they work hard for their job...and its not a joke working in a grave yard shift and be patient for different types of customers.
for me, being a call center agent is not easy and its not for lazy people...coz i think lazy people would want to sleep and rest all day instead of working! hehe

yeah, handling customers, specially those complaining and inconsiderate customers was never easy, i do work on customer service and it really requires a lot of patience...

i guess it not just for lazy people as they also work there like other ordinary people. they go to work with the same times as other job do. if they work at night its because they need to follow american time as most of their account are from america. besides staying at night and have a sleepless night is not that easy. handling calls every seconds after another call is not that easy and yet accepting those irate calls, at least normal work can still have rest a minute if they want too but in call center the only rest you have is if your having your break time but once you started your phone calls then its already a never ending calls. so its not a lazy work but its for those who are smart enough on how to handle their customer problem and concern and solve it.

Any job is a good job as long as you do your best at it. That's how I raised my sons. I told them that, even if they wanted to be a garbage collector, they should be the best garbage collector they could be. They've used that work ethic ever since.

I think that there is NO job for lazy people. Lazy people don't want to work! Well, maybe, if there was a job for a mattress tester, one where they had to determine how long it took to fall asleep on specific mattresses, THAT may be a job for lazy people. lol

My son has desperately been looking for a job. I know that he would take one as a call center agent in a flash if one became available to him, and he's definitely not a lazy person!

Hi, newuserptc. I don't think that a Call Center job is for lazy people. I think that these people work just as hard as people who move around a whole lot. Mean people just say this, because, this job may require a person to sit down without doing much moving around. These people work hard because they talk and call many people. They may also process many orders that takes a lot of their time to do. Especially, when they have many people that need the customer service department. This is no lazy job, in my opinion, it is a strenuous job.cry
