Bunny Rabbit (best meat ever) |
| |
| [Again if you are vegan, animal rights activist or you just find it gross to eat a cute fluffy creature, this discussion is not for you] I think this was the best meat I had ever tasted, Its much better than pork, chicken and beef combined. I was so upset that my country is the only country that doesn't see this animal as food just because its cute. Its a shame my country was invaded by Spaniards for 333 years but they never introduced kunejos as meat. This meat is clean, high in protein, organic and low in fat but people think its wrong to eat it just because its cute. I know its meat in Europe since it was seen as pest by farmers. | | | | | |

| | i never tasted this meat yet but i have watch in one tv program about it. in that program they show the potential of such animal in the market. i think there's this certain place, i just forget where it is, that they actually sell rabbit's meat in their market. its not as popular as chicken, pork, coz but the locals says that its better and affordable. i hope to see its meat in our market as well, so that i can try it myself, anyway i think it will really do good for business since its easier for them to reproduce... | | | | | | |

| | I don't know why, but it's a meat eaten in winter, and very affordable. A large part of the rabbits sold in France are coming from China : it's strange that you can't buy some in your country. | | | |

| | Unlike Pigs and chickens, their poop is not stinky and their meat is guaranteed clean, compare to chickens that eats worms and Pigs that eats their own poop. Isn't it ironic our country is the like the only one that doesn't eat Rabbit while has a population of dog eaters.(I will never eat dogs because of their parasites)Unlike Pigs and chickens, Rabbit doesn't have plagues like swine flu and bird flue. No one will die of hunger if some families will actually raise them for meat since you can feed them with vegetable trimmings and leaves that you can find anywhere. It has potential but its too late to introduce it to the market. Maybe it can be introduced to very poor families, since they have no excuse to be picky eaters. | | | |

| | but i think there's already some resto that have rabbits in their menu...but its specialty & kinda exotic... and since they can eat grass or vegetables, they are surely more clean & healthy as compared to other animals. hmmm, i hate those who eat dogs, not only because its not that safe to eat its also disgusting for them to eat a man's best friend... | | | |

| | They have a real plague Albert, it's called myxomatosis, and a rabbit with myxomatosis looks horrible ! However a man can't get it. ckyera : I agree with you for the dogs ! | | | |

| | Dogs have parasites and Rabies, I cant blame the Koreans,Chinese and the Igorots in our country because its a culture they grow up with. They need that meat to warm them from the cold climate since they live in cold locations. I also want ostrich meat to be introduced in our country but its super expensive. | | | |

| | you are right, ckyera : let's say a taste of white meat like duck. But it's quite expensive and you expect something better for the price. Have you tried quails, Albert ? It's better than a pheasant for me. | | | |

| | Hunting endemic wild quails in our country was illegal, the quail eggs we have here are from an exported breed I think. They were only raised for eggs here. | | | |

| | I did not think they can hybrid in nature : they are different, and have not the same habits. They are common in nature, but hunters like them, so if you are not a hunter, it's difficult to have one, except in some butchers' shops in fall, and they are expensive : around $25 for a kg. | | | |

| | You can find hares in shops only when hunt is opened, and if they are not rare in the country, they are rare and expensive in shops : only a few hunters sell them to shops. | | | |

| | I'm not a hunter, but I know there are some closed private hunts where you can pay to hunt during a day or a week-end ; I'm not sure if you need a license to hunt there. I go one or two times a year to fish in a private lake : they rent you the material, and you pay to fish for a day, but you don't need a public license. | | | |

| | Most rodent animals tasted like chicken, I consider dropping off chicken from my diket since the thing they eat have lots of chemicals. The concept of eating Rabbits yet still having one as a pet is like the concept of people poisoning rats despite of having one as a pet. I cant blame your brother if he will kill and eat those rabbits since they ruin his Garden. I have a pet Tilapia fish and I named him Decimal ,in my aquarium but I still buy Tilapia fish in the market. As long as its not our pet that we are eating. | | | |

| | I had it as a stew with potatoes, carrots and tomato sauce and its very tasty. In some countries it was frilled whole just like a suckling pig. Its similar to chicken but I prefer it over chicken since chickens were kinda dirty, they eat everything just like pigs plus the chemicals mixed with their feeds to make them fat. | | | |

| | I've honestly never eaten a rabbit before. I think that even if someone would cook a rabbit for me I will not eat it simply because I'm not used to eating it. I only eat other kinds of meat because I grew up eating them. If I had never learned to eat meat I think I would never try eating meat. | | | | | | |

| | I think Rabbit works more for stews and casseroles, They were not really for drying but I can let go of chicken for Rabbit. I didnt know they were expensive in US, I thought farmers just shoot them and eat them as revenge for ruining their garden. | | | |

| | The "pest" (wild) rabbits are ususally shot or poisoned and very few people eat them. They are usually tough and gamey and infected with various parasites. There are some farmers in the US who raise them for fur and meat; but, not a lot because of squeamish people who associate rabbits with the "Easter Bunny" and Bugs Bunny. Very few grocery stores even carry rabbit meat and it is usually frozen and 1 rabbit costs as much as 3 - 4 chickens. I had a friend who was trying to get into the business of raising them for their fur and keeping the meat for his own family. When it was time to do the first slaughter, he had too many to kill and dress by himself; so, my husband and I helped in return for some of the meat. Unfortunately, we now live several hundred miles from him. In addition to stews and casseroles, rabbit is good marinated in teriyaki sauce and cooked on skewers and it is also good in stir fry. But, because there is no skin (like you find on a chicken) it doesn't fry well (it is too dry). | | | |

| | For fur production, I think its better to raise rabbit over minx since we can eat the meat unlike the other fur animals such as mix. I actually like gamey meat since Its a challenge to neutralized the gameyness. | | | |

| | My grandmother taught me to remove the "gameyness" by soaking the meat overnight in water with 1 c of white vinegar and a sliced onion. That is what she used to do whan a neighbor gave them some venison. I don't know if it would work on other meats or not. | | | |
albertwhisker (4532)

| | Lemon grass and citrus juice is also a good way to remove the gameyness but sometimes we need to let some gameness to stay since it might lose the flavor.I agree about onions, they really work in all cuisines around the world. | | | |
