When I was probably in my teen years, my stepgrandmother bought me a beatles lp. The blue double album call "the beatles-1967 to 1970" Other than hearing the hit "hey jude" I wasn't really familiar with the fab four's music. Maybe once in awhile I might hear "here comes the sun" or "Obla di Obla da" on a radio somewhere, but never owned any of their hits. Until I got this particular gift, so I put it on my record player, and watched it spin. The lyrics and instrumentals were like magic coming from the speakers. I was hooked right away. In 1995, I caught the documentary "Beatles Anthology" on television. Except for the lack of the presence of John Lennon, the remaining members told a very engrossing story. Introducing two new videos "Real love" and "Free as a bird" That was all it took for me to be an avid collector of all their works. I bought every single on of their albums on cd. It was the best adventure I could have ever been on. Do you have a favorite beatles story? What is a particular favorite song of yours? One that means the most to you. Feel free to share

I think hey Jude don't take it bad, take a sad song and make it better. Remember the lyrics of Beatles.I think my uncle have a collection of Beatles Songs.I played it when I was young and It's good to remember those songs like It's hard day's night, when I working like a dog.

Hi palegemini,
My favorite is Strawberry Fields Forever.happy
I can say that I grew up with the songs of the Beatles. I lived in the province before and all we had that time was a radio and there was a station that would always play their songs. I also like Come Together, And I Love Her, Here There and Everywhere and many others. These songs don't really mean anything though, they just bring back my childhood memories every time i listen to them.

Hello Gareth- Yes, their earliest songs were pretty good too. The days when the hair was shorter, and they wore suits. Clean cut music, for a clean cut generation. Thanks for your response

"And Your Bird Can Sing" and that whole side of Yesterday and Today was probably my favorite Beatles song for a long time, tho I love just about everything on the Sargent Pepper's album. I loved Lucy in the Sky and For the Benefit of Mr. Kite and When I'm Sixty-Four (lordly how that one is RAPIDLY approaching!) shocked

And I sure can relate to "With a Little Help From My Friends". wink

I do confess I was a tweenie (that word didn't exist back then) and into my teens when the Beatles were the "Big Deal." Have no doubt I would've loved to have seen them live, as it is, I've seen Paul and Ringo live, but Maggiepie saw the group live - TWICE! thumbup

Hello ElicBxn- Those must have been great concerts. A few years ago, they had a stage show called "Love" which was featured in Vegas. The two remaining beatles, and the children of John and George were there for the grand opning. What a sight that must have been.thumbup

i know a lot of their songs because they were among my brother's favorites. happy they have fast and slow songs, silly and serious ones. 'let it be' and 'imagine' would be 2 of their universal and immortal songs. thumbup i did come up with a personal list many years ago i called beatles slo-mo but i misplaced it. sad

myLot reputation of 98/100. palegemini (438)  2 years ago

Hello binggaling- That's too bad when you misplace things that mean a lot to you. At least there are some sites where you can download most of their music. The entire beatles catalog would be a wonderful addition to your electronic lifestyle. Thanks for your responsehappy

I am also an avid fan of the beatles and even lennon-mccartney songs! I just love their artistry. I liked very much the lyrics and melodies of the song they compose and sung. I love a lot of their songs but the first song that came to my mind as i was reading your discussion is the songs, IMAGINE and LET IT BE. I love these songs, they are probably the most famous ones.

myLot reputation of 98/100. palegemini (438)  2 years ago

Hello there livvy- For the longest time, I found much of their music a good segueway from the clean cut look, to the hippie style very introspective. They touched on the love, peace, and understanding feelings very well. Even other artists covered their works in some fashion. Thanks for your response

myLot reputation of 98/100. palegemini (438)  2 years ago

Hello Hatley- That seems to be the song of choice, Let it Be was more of a solace song for Paul McCarney. He often put a lot of emotion in his music, just like with "Hey Jude". Except that one was dedicated to Julian Lennon. Thanks for your response

I have that one too and the first one (1964 - 1966?)... I like pretty much every song they wrote (except #9), but my favorite is Let It Be. No reason, I just like it...

myLot reputation of 98/100. palegemini (438)  2 years ago

Hello Dawnald- I had 1964 to 1966 on CD at one time. The songs sounded a lot cleaner than on the LP. I am sure it fetches a lot on ebay now. Thanks for your responsethumbup

Im not a major fan of the Beatles but definately recognise the contribution to rock music and rock 'n roll. I although knew of them, was really introduced to them by Whitesnake. I mean, if you look at Whitesnake's first full album Trouble (19878), you may notice that they have a song ont here called Day Tripper which ofcourse is a Beatles cover. Now, the Whitesnake version is more suited to my taste but, I really do like th Beatles original. I also like Help! and All My Loving.

Hello firstcontact- Not a lot of people are fans, but they did make a huge impact on the world. Who'd have thought, four young men from liverpool would give us something to change our lives. Thanks for the response

Hi Palegemini,

I saw the beatles when they first appeared on the Ed Sullivan show back in the 60s. I was 6 yrs old and I became hooked. My dad went right out and bought me their first album and then the second etc etc. I listened to them and collected their music thru all my growing up years. I remember wanting so bad to meet them and being infatuated with Paul and I was just a little girl. As I got older, I came to admire John and George a lot more and thought they were the most talented in the group. Then there was that whole story of Paul being dead and how if you played their album backwards , John could be heard saying "Paul is dead". The theory was that Paul was dead and a look-alike had taken his place. Crazy stuff, huh?

myLot reputation of 98/100. palegemini (438)  2 years ago

Hello Sid- I do remember that story quite well. It all started as a prank from a guy to a disc jockey at the time. "Abbey Road" was the one album which had most of the supposed clues. Paul barefoot, George Harrison dressed as a grave digger, Ringo the Pall bearer, etc. Paul having a cigarette in his right hand, when he was left handed, and the list goes on. It was morbid, but also interesting. John and George were my two favorites also, and I truly miss them the most. Thanks for your responsethumbuphappy
