It must be real difficult for you with that heat and humidity. Hope that you are taking a lot of fluids to keep the body cool and to replinish the fluid loss. We have the same problem here with the power going off unscheduled and at the most oddest of times. It's really hot here as well, and since we are not used to that kind of heat, it has taken it's toll. Can you believe in all my years in this city that had it's nick name airconditioned city a decade ago, i seriously contemplated buying an AC today.

Having one of those mini inflatable pools right now seems like a good idea . Just one shower a few days ago, and eagerly awaiting a good rain.

Yes thats awful indeed. It was election day here and thats y uptill now there wasn't any big power cut. But as the results will be declared tomorrow the real summer season is on i guess.
Our ex-chief minister said that he will make Mumbai another Shanghai and they cant even give enough power supply . Forget about the rest of amenities. The business hub of the country without power sounds terrible and we ourselves are to blame for that.
Its quite warm here in Mumbai also but not as bad u described. My mother always tells me to take her to Kolkata in the summer vacation and i always delay it giving some lame excuse. Well u gave me just another very valid reason not to visit kolkata especially during this time of the year.

I can well understand your state of affairs, as we also suffer
in the same fashion. I think summer months are harsher at your end, due to high handedness of the authorities concerned and high humidity levels.
As of now the weather here in New Delhi is mainly dry, day temperature is around 42 degree Celsius and night temperature around 22-24 degree Celsius, and hot winds are blowing during day time, which are called 'loo'. It used to happen in the month of May every year, but this year summer months have arrived earlier than the usual. No doubt we are also sweating and it is uncomfortable to go out after 11.00 a.m till the sun sets.
Humidity level right now is luckily very low may be 6-8. Also, electricity
supply has gone to private hands for the past 3-4 years, therefore, the
situation of power cuts is not as bad, as it used to be, when it was
all Government affair. We also suffer power cuts here but on an average
not more than one hour per day and there is not any restriction on switching
on our ACs after 10 p.m. As I told you that the weather here is mainly dry
now a days, therefore, we are cooling and ourselves with the help of Desert Coolers, which work better than any AC in dry summer (months). However, as soon as the May month will approach and humidity level would rise, then we will have no option but to resort to ACs. At that time our desert coolers will become useless as they would be unable to control the humidity levels.
Keep yourself cool by splashing some water on your face, as and when situation gets out of control. Also, if you feel restless, keep a hand fan handy, so that you could give some air to you by moving hand fan......lol!

PS - I think you wanted to say 40 degree Celsius, instead of Fahrenheit, which roughly means 104 degree Feranites.

In fact all MOM'S are always correct..and so is your Mom..

In another forum,one of my friend has requested to us on EARTH HOUR on 27.3.2010. I immediately told him that we are practicing it daily for hours together.. to save the world..

List of benefits to us when the power goes:

1) Power consumption is reduced, thereby "Electricity saved, is electricity produced"

2) Your electricity bill gets reduced considerably.

3) Our body through SWEAT removes all unwanted salty and fatty, oily.. substances..

4) Constant use of " HAND FAN" ACTS AS AN EXERCISE..

5) We have less time to spend on internet to waste time like this in charting points like one, two,three etc..

P.S: I feel that following are the amazing coincidences between we two:

A) Today in our town the temperature recorded was 42.5 centigrade

B) Repeated advice of my Mom, quoting instances of their early days..that "when i was like you.. those were the days,.. when we used to..(once this was started by my mom.. it would take another 10 minutes to end..)

My Decision:
On Comparing (A) with (B) listed above, i prefer option (A) is far more easy to withstand..and hence i leave out of the scene..enjoying the HOT SUN.

When it gets that hot here, I would turn the computer off to keep it from overheating and also the keep the heat from the computer from adding to the room temperature. PS: You mean 40C not 40F and we do get 40C around here, sometimes for weeks on end, but we do not have the humidity, so ours feels a bit less oppressive.

I'm so sorry you cannot use your air conditioning! My husband and I don't have A/C at our house, which seems kind of strange to me since I've always had it. We will eventually put in a cooling unit once our furnace goes out because we can install a new heating and cooling unit at one time. In the mean time, we hope for mild summers. We live in Michigan, so it doesn't get too bad. We have a few days or week stretches when it's 90 or 100 degrees (Fahrenheit), but it stays cool in the house for the most part thanks to our large trees that keep the house in the shade. We also have a vent fan in the ceiling that pulls all the hot air up into the attic when it gets really hot. We sometimes leave the windows open when we use it to pull in the fresh air from outside and the hot air up into the attic. We're on a slab with no basement, so there's no place to go that's cooler, but the slab does help in keeping the house cool. The other good thing is that if it gets hot at the house during the day, we're both at work all day anyway, and there is, of course, A/C at work. It's not so bad! Right now in Michigan, our spring has come early. It's been absolutely beautiful. It gets to the 60s or 70s during the day and 40s or 50s at night. We had a couple days where it was in the 80s, but not for too long. We also had a day last week where it only got up to 40 during the day. We had some snow flurries, but nothing major. This is a tough time of year because we never know what to wear and whether or not to leave the heat on - LOL! I hope your A/C and power issues get cleared up soon. I can understand that some places they need to conserve power more than others, but it's very unreasonable if you have to give up your A/C until 10 at night! By then, it's cooling down anyway. What I would suggest in your case would be to drink lots so you don't get dehydrated! Get all your housework done at night when it'll be cooler out. Leave the windows open at night when it's colder to cool the house down. When the sun comes up, close the windows and shades to keep the coolness inside! I hate doing housework and strenuous things when it's hot in the house. Those kind of conditions just make you want to go to sleep, read a book, get on MyLot (LOL), or just sit around. It's too hot to do anything when it gets to be that hot. Hope it all works out for you!

Hi Mimpi....well the weather and the government here in Kerala are both almost identical to your place....So u can imagine my plight too.....But this time ,instead of introducing a power cut,my government has suddenly raised power tarrif exhorbitantly from April 1st.........And people in my state are literally living between the devil and the deep sea.........Even though, the climate is hot and unbearable ,people fear to even TOUCH electric switches (of fans and A/cs),let alone switch them on,because they know that at the end of the month,the shock from seeing the electricity bill will paralyse them permanently.....sigh...

We are little forward than you dear, here it 41.6 degree Celsius. About the power, today starts the worst experience and there was no power since morning, in between it came twice for some minutes. Fortunately or unfortunately my UPS battery also stopped its service and I sat here without using the computer. Inverter is also not able work for us now due to some problem. Outside there is heat waves and you can guess the situation inside room without even a fan….

mimpi hi then it must be summer where you are. Here in California its still just spring. its been raining here this morning and is overcast ,warm bout 65 out, was higher yesterday. Are you in the Phillippines by any chance. its coolish in our room and I am wearing a very light sweater and my comfy old blue denim skirt and blouse.I love spring with all the new blooms and the birds all singing their hearts out.

I love the discussions about the weather because I am always experiencing the opposite to most being in Australia! It has been a hot summer and now it is cooling down in fact today I’m wearing a jacket for the second time this year and yesterday it was actually a little chilly and wet, so right now, I cannot relate to your situation at all! It must be difficult not to be able to have the air conditioners on until night time. I guess I would get used to no power for a time but no A C; that one I would struggle with! I am thinking of you...
