Stacked NBA Western Conference | | | | Though the 8 playoffs teams in the Western Conference in the NBA is already set, the final outcome of the placings still hasn't been decided yet until the end of the regular season. Virtually, the defending champions Los Angeles Lakers have already claimed the number 1 seed in the West but the number 2 up to 8 seeds has still to be decided yet. Dallas, Denver, Utah, Phoenix, Portland, San Antonio, and Oklahoma City are all being separated by only 4 games. Dallas leads Denver, Utah, and Phoenix by a single game and over Portland, San Antonio, and Oklahoma City by 4 games. Statistically, Portland, San Antonio, and Oklahoma City doesn't stand a chance to make a crack on the top 5 spots because of the remaining game left. However, these three teams are still tied with a 49-31 record. Denver, Utah, and Phoenix are also tied at 52-28 for the 3rd to 5th place and including Dallas, the 2nd to 5th place still is undecided. A single loss could hamper any team's chances of placing a little higher the standings. Though the placings really doesn't matter much for the 5th to 8th seeded teams because of the quality of teams the West have, it matters a lot for the top 4 teams because of homecourt advantage. It boils down to only two goals. Now that the number 1 seed is already locked for the Lakers, Dallas, Denver, Utah, and Phoenix would battle it out in order to get a better placing which would mean homecourt advantage in the playoffs. Portland, San Antonio, and Oklahoma City would battle for a better placing in order to avoid the Lakers which would improve their chances in making it to the second round. Phoenix and Oklahoma City has been the biggest surprises in the West so far. Oklahoma City has been so consistent since the start of the season, especially it's star player Kevin Durant, while the Phoenix Suns has been the best team since the All-Star break. Known for their high octane offense, the Suns have employed a little defense in their game which made them a more lethal team. Nevertheless, the remaining games in the Western Conference showcasing any of the Western Conference playoffs bound teams would be so entertaining and thrilling. It won't be settled not until the final buzzer of the final game of the season ends. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |

| | yes, i agree that the western conference seeding has not yet been decided. the two remaining games will be very crucial for this scenario. in the playoff, the seeding is very important. it provides good chance to advance deeper into the playoff. even the number seed has no assusrance because upsets always loom in nba games. any team in the western conference can pull an upset so the seeding becomes hardly a factor, but homecourt advantage is something to build on. | | | | | | | boybato (2210)

| | Oklahoma City is my darkhorse team in the West (Charlotte and Milwaukee in the East). Oklahoma City is the team in the West who's got the better chance of staging an upset, especially if they face the Phoenix Suns. What they lack in experience, they make it up with their determination, youth, and energy. Kevin Durant is simply a phenom and Oklahoma City is for sure a team to watch next season. | | | | | | | Basketball Practice Aids Improve Your Basketball Skills, Get More Out of Practice Sessions! | | nice analysis. and if you look at their starters, they are lethal from 1 to 5. if you look at their bench, then you'll see some gaps by oklahoma, san antonio and portland who lacks solid bench players but then they make it up with explosive starters.the west is just so amazing. you need to win 50 games to go into the playoffs. memphis, houston and new orleans could have made it into the playoffs if they were playing in the east, and probably only cleveland, orlando, altanta and boston could have made it if they were in the west | | | | | | | boybato (2210)

| | Nice observation too and I'd love to give a lot of credit to the Phoenix Suns bench. The Suns started the season virtually with about 6 reliable players in their roster namely Steve Nash, Amare Stoudemire, Grant Hill, Jason Richardson, Leandro Barbosa, and Channing Frye. Along the course of the season and with some injuries along the way, Goran Dragic, Jared Dudley, Robin Lopez, and Louis Amundson have stepped up big time to help the Suns for their cause. The better part? The Suns have developed a good defensive game which really helps a lot in their high octane offense. Though the Suns bench aren't as known as the bench players of the Lakers, Mavericks, and Nuggets, they are as equally effective. As Charles Barkley have pointed out in his analysis, with the current showing of the Suns, they are arguably the second best team in the West after the defending champions and the Lakers is the only team that could beat the Suns. Such a bold statement from Barkley but it says a lot about the Suns. With LeBron James sitting on the sidelines and just a few more games left to play, it seems that Kevin Durant have the scoring title in the bad already. Saying that, Durant and the rest of the Oklahoma City Thunder are now focusing on the playoffs. With their consistent showing all season long, the Thunder is a very big threat in the West. What remains to be seen is Durant's tenacity. Could he continue his impressive showing? Or will the higher playoffs intensity get the best of them? | | | | | | | La Lakers Ticket Deals Huge Discounts On All LA Lakers Tickets. Up To 60% Savings Online! | | I was talking about this exact subject to a mate. We were talking about the depth of the Western Conference compared to the Eastern Conference. We looked at the 8 teams in the Playoff spots and I too think that Oklahoma Thunder could be a surprise team but I hope not if they play the Lakers. | | | | | | | louierrific24 (706)

| | OKC reminds me of the Golden State Warriors three years ago or four years ago -- the same team that played small ball and upset the no. 1 seed Dallas Mavericks. During that time they had Baron Davis manning the point and young guys such as Andre Biedrins and the talented Monta Ellis (my favorite). In addition they have so much depth in Captain Jack (Stephen Jackson) and Al Harrington. That was the "We Believe" era and that I have a feeling that OKC has what it takes to "Believe" | | | | lakerfanster (1304)

| | I believe that this Oklahoma Thunder team is better than that team. It was really not expected from the Golden State Warriors even though they were a decent team then. It will certainly be interesting to see what will happen. | | | | louierrific24 (706)

| | Talentwise it's a tough call to say that the OKC of today is better than the GSW of the small-ball era. The GSW during that time was loaded with offensive weapons unlike OKC which has a scoring machine in Durant. Durant is OKC, he's bigger than the franchise in comparison in the 2006-2007 season Davis isn't GSW. If you'll ask about chemistry, the GSW of that time has more of it than OKC. | | | | boybato (2210)

| | Between Oklahoma City Thunder and the Golden State Warriors that massively upset the Dallas Mavericks way back, I think Oklahoma City has the edge because of Kevin Durant. Durant is basically the face of the team and is among the top players in the NBA this season. The Warriors edge on the other hand over the Mavericks was Don Nelson. Even before the playoffs, the Warriors swept the season series against the Mavericks who at that season finished with a 67-15 record. Nelson was the Mavericks' former coach and was simply familiar with the Mavericks' system who was coached by his assistant Avery Johnson. Nelson just plainly outsmarted the Mavericks despite of the fact that the Warriors were playing small. Mavericks or Thunder? Should the Thunder face any team in the playoffs this season, they'd be a serious threat (maybe excluding the Lakers) while the Warriors was only a threat to the Mavericks and really had a hard time with the Utah Jazz the next round. It was Don Nelson who made the difference, not really the players. If the Warriors were playing under a different coach against the Mavericks, they'd end up losing, and could even be swept in the first round. | | | | kenneth101383 (648)

| | In my own observation, the Thunder has the capability of staging an upset. But with the lack of experience, the most that the Oklahoma City could finished is in the 2nd round of the playoffs, depending on the team that they will face in the first round. If they will land to the number 8th spot, facing the Lakers, then, it would be a very difficult tasks for them of staging an upset as the Golden State Warriors did it to the Dallas Mavericks on the 2006 - 2007 NBA season. Youth, talent and the eagerness to play and win the game will place the Thunder in a formidable position of giving other teams in the playoffs a hard time. | | | | | | | 2011 NBA Finals Jerseys Buy Official NBA Finals Jerseys! 2011 NBA Finals Championship Store. www.FastbreakFanatics.com | add comment | | | |

| | As a Laker Fan I'm pretty much concerned as to who will land at the 8th spot. As of the moment, San Antonio, Oklahoma and Portland are battling for the 6th, 7th and 8th positions. I just hope that San Antonio slides to the 8th spot. Portland is one of the two teams in the west that knows how to beat the Lakers and had beaten them consistently.(the other one is Denver) Likewise, Oklahoma poses a huge threat against the Lakers, they have a young and aggressive cast anchored by Kevin Durant and Russel Westbrook. Honestly, they can outrun the Lakers and can stand toe to toe against the league's best offensive teams. Right now San Antonio gives the Lakers a better edge, Manu Ginnobli might be playing great as of late but sooner or later they'll feel the absence of Tony Parker. Going to the playoffs with an inexperienced point guard will extremely hurt San Antonio. Tim Duncan will have matchup problems against Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol. If ever it would be Odom-Duncan, Odom will get past Duncan off the dribble plus Odom because of his range will draw Duncan out of his comfort zone defensively. (assuming San Antonio uses man-to-man) Gasol and Odom can also take turns defending Duncan. I know that Duncan is a great player but constant switches will confuse any player even the great LeBron James. Gasol can push Duncan out of the painted area when San Antonio is on offense while Odom can blew past Duncan when the Lakers are on offense. Defensively, San Antonio doesn't have their "old reliable" (Bruce Bowen) that is committed to guarding Kobe Bryant. Who's to guard Bryant? Ginobili? Richard Jefferson? The closest perhaps is Roger Mason but Bryant will find loopholes in Mason's one-on-one defense. If ever it's LAL-SAS, it's 4-1 LAKERS, if LAL-OKC, it's LAKERS 4-2 and if it's LAL-POR, it would be a seven-game series with David Stern making sure that the Lakers will win. | | | | | | | lakerfanster (1304)

| | David Stern would not make the Lakers go through a seven game series. If the Lakers did beat Portland in a seven games series it would be because they were the better team. | | | | | | boybato (2210)

| | Lakers and Thunder would be the greatest first round match. It would showcase a duel between Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant. Durant is having a phenomenal season and he surely deserves a match against nothing but the best. | | | | louierrific24 (706)

| | It would be fun to see Kobe and Durant light up the scoreboard. Durant can go toe to toe with Kobe but apart from their duel it's going to be awful for the OKC. Anyway if they do meet in the first round which is the most likely scenario considering that OKC just lose moments ago against Portland, I predict a 4-2 LAL victory. | | | | boybato (2210)

| | I could see Durant's numbers go down a bit come playoffs time. Ron Artest or Kobe Bryant will be all over him and his and the whole Oklahoma City's inexperience would be too costly, especially against a team like the Lakers. Looking long term, Durant, Russell Westbrook, and most of the Thunder are still young and would pretty much invest for the future. Pretty sure the Thunder would keep it's core players and probably Scott Brooks too and build around them. Probably a season or two will do for Oklahoma City and they would be among the serious contenders in the West. I'm just thinking about Steve Nash playing for Oklahoma maybe just for a season before he retires. For sure he'll be a very big help for the Thunder (hoping that would not disrupt the flow of Westbrook as a point guard and probably move him up as a 2-guard). | | | | | | | Top Basketball Shoes -57% Basketball Shoes at bargain prices: Basketball Shoes up to 57% cheaper www.Basketball-Shoes.news72.com | add comment | | | |
