Call center agents dont use their real names |
| |
| One of the things people dont know about call centers that is the fact that Customer service representatives, Telemarketers,Billing operators,Technical supports ,Chat support agents and even Phone sex operators dont use their real names for security purposes. In the case of India and Philippines, Agents use American names so the clients will think that they were not talking to foreigners, In case of Local callcenters in America and Canada, they use codenames for security reasons. | | | | | |

| | I didn't know that fact before. Until I landed int he call center industry and was asked to think of an American name that I can use. We were advised that its for security and so that customers would think that they are talking to Americans. But I sometimes laugh at other people using Americans name that sometimes they can really put justice to the name they have chosen. | | | | | | |

| | I use a Hungarian last name since we know there are lots of Americans with European lastnames. I just dont like the English last names, While most of my coworkers were using English lastnames most of them had been caught by their clients to be not American. I was never caught and I'm using a none English lastname. | | | |

| | Well, yeah it is for their own security and purpose that they do that! I have read in a book where Kalpana - an Indian name changes to Agent Candy in a call center and the name Varun changes to Agent Vroom!!! Well, this has to be done and I think it is certainly correct! | | | | | | |

| | Well a salary of a regular agent in your country was a salary of a manager here, thats why they prefer to get agents here. I was good at faking American accent though, I was never caught. Being caught can cause an agents job, If you asked an agent if he or she is American, That agent will be in Major trouble. | | | |

| | Lol....it's funny, I never really think of myself as having an "american accent". May I ask which region you faked? We have dozens of regional dialects and accents here. A deep south accent is the most noticable, but is hardest to convincingly fake, especialy to someone in the deep south. True new england regional accents can be hard to do too. Besides, even when faked...most of us can tell. Most people jst dont usualy let on we know. I'm sure there are some out there, like yourself, with a good enough comand of the english language to "fake it", but it's a lot harder to pull over on us than most people think. | | | |

| | In USA I do Southern accent, Midwestern accent, Boston accent,Valley Accent and the standard newscaster accent. In Canada I was able to do Western and Eastern accent. I know the deep South accent was hard indeed, I just use a Western accent when i talk to Canucks since my company's Canadian main office was in "British Columbia" | | | |

| | well, in my case and my boyfriend's case... we used our real names. the clients preferred us to use our real names so as not to confuse everyone and we might actually use different code names if that would be the case. i don't think there are security reasons not mentioning your real name... | | | | | | |

| | Are you from a local account or a foreign account? The codenames ere actually protection from being sued or killed. During the 80's agents use their real names until one female agent was killed by an irate client ho remembered her name. | | | |

| | Hi, I have heard that before, personally I have worked in 3 different call centres (in the UK) for big companies and have never myself had to use a different name or ever known any of my colleagues or co-workers have to. If a company wanted me or a colleague to use a different name for commercial reasons or because they didn't want customers to think they were talking to foreigners, then I would refuse to work for them. I would only ever consider using a different name for a company if there were genuine security reasons or giving out my real name would put me or somebody else in danger. Thanks, Ian | | | | | | |

| | In Australia it's much the same. The call centre in which I worked for several years was managed by a human resource officer who took our highly dangerous jobs rather seriously. While the customer service representatives - three hundred or so people - scoffed at the suggestion that safety could/would be compromised in any way, she was quite adamant that the threat was real and genuine. The human resource officer's solution was that - whenever we responded to a customer via email - we had to use a fake name. Nothing fancy, mind you (because that might give the devious ploy away to customers); but something like 'George' or 'Jason' or 'Bob'. The funny thing is that - when we spoke on the phone - we had to use our real names, which kind of defeated the purpose. In hindsight, the only real danger to staff was the human resource officer and her freakish ideas! | | | | | | |

| | I dont know but in my country we were forced to fake names because we have Hispanic and Filipino last-names. We were force to change names because the moment they found out we have Hispanic last names, they will hang up. The callcenters here were much more strict. | | | |

| | lol at that one holesworth! by the way, did any one of you guys check if the human resource officer was using her real name? hahaha. agree with you albert. since most of the filipino names sounds spanish and does not sound anything like an american name, i think most call centers are having this as company policy. | | | |

| | Plus I had encountered a lot of Americans who hate Hispanic people and the moment they ear someone with a Hispanic lastname they will hang up right away. Ironically I was indeed Hispanic, I was part Peruvian and I know lots westerners dont Peruvian culture because we eat something cute and cuddly they see as pets. | | | |

| | in my previous call center, i was with a collections account so we are bounded by law to give our real names including the last one. i think we are the exception rather than the rule. lol! i completely understand the reasoning about giving false names. it protects the company and the agent in more ways than one. feel sorry though for the clients calling up. actually, on second thought, no, i don't feel sorry for them. lol! they are obnoxious and rude and the least thing agents want is that these callers know are real names. lol! cheers!!! | | | | | | |

| | I do not blame them for not using their real names for security purposes, and even so that Americans will think they're talking to someone in the USA. I wasn't actually aware of this, but I definitely do not blame them. I just hope that they use the same name just in case a customer wants to call back and speak directly to them. | | | | | | |

| | Basically our phone name were permanent so customers who wanted a certain agent can still track them down. By far there are no complaints against me because I was a very slippery weasel in such situations. | | | |

| | Oh okay, and you were able to pick out the name or was it picked by your supervisor? I wonder how badly a person really is reprimanded at a call center if a complaint has been put against them. After all the complaintant doesn't have to know that the complaint was followed through so it could fall on deaf ears. | | | |

| | exactly! almost 98 percent of call center agents don't use their real names. In fact they speak naturally, have a good accent and sounds like a real american but they are keep telling lie to their customers may be just because of security reasons and racism. | | | | | | |
