CD Drive showing BLANK CDs !!!!  

well.. i am using laptop.. and its CDs are working fine in my friends computer.. may be my cd drive's lens got weak.. do you think i can do anything on it.. or should i change whole CD drive??

well.. some CDs are working fine and some are not.. and the cds that are not working in my laptop are working fine in other computers.. and things are becoming more difficult.. as days are passing this problem is increasing more.. i think i should change Cd drive as you mentioned.. is anything else i can do?

well.. supporting is not the problem.. i have cd drive which can read and write both CDs and DVDs.. but i think problem is lens of cd drive.. it got weak.. is their any way to solve the problem without changing the CD drive.

you can get the cleaning disks in shops that sell cd players for music,dvd players for films or computer shops as they are all basically the same thing.
My laptop was having a hard time reading disks and wouldn't burn any properly but since I used a cleaning thing, it is fine now so its probably just dirt that has built up.

well... today i buy the cleaning disk.. and tried it.. but still i don't get positive results.. i think i have to go for new CD drive.. and laptop's cddrive is quite costly..

no no.. its working fine for some CDs and getting problems for some CDs.. and this problem is increasing as day passed... i am using compaq laptop.. i think its lens got weak.. do you think it can be recovered using leans cleaning disk.??

nope using vista... but i was trying to install xp today.. but CD drive was showing that cd was blank.. he he so can't reinstall the XP.. few days before only few music cd was not working .. but now softwares and os cds are also not working ...

I KNEW IT O______________O .. I had a problem just like yours except it was for usb, and thats why I infinitely hate vista -__________- . I even couldnt transfer files to my usb , as it would ask it to format , and when I formatted it , it would stop working. The problem did not arise till the week after the installation of vista

i don't think vista is the problem for my problem... because i have tried to boot XP cd also during start up.. but srill it not loaded..so it is not because of vista.. yes vista is having lots of problem but i think this is because of weak leans.

Touching lens is very dangerous , you should get it cleaned from a professional

i have try to clean it using lens cleaning disk available in the market.. but still it is same as before.. no good result.. i think i have to go for new one.. thanks for your suggestion.

yes ... the cds which are not working in my laptop is working fine in my desktop computer and in my friend computer... i think i have to try leans cleaning disk to recover the lens as one user suggest in above response... otherwise i have to switch to new one...

no i haven't any virtual drive... and i am using windows vista... i don't know the exact problem.. but i think its lens got weak.. may be.... well i will try to clean it using lens cleaning disk.. and if problem will not solved then there is no other option.. i have to switch to new CD Drive.

It might be LENS problem..
Quickstar have said right..instead of repairing the lens..it is better to buy new one..because there is negligible difference between buying and repairing..after all u are getting a new hard disk...

well..i am thinking for it.. but price you have mentioned is wrong.. because i have visited shop today for new one.. and prices for branded DVD drive is 3500 and for local one is 2500... too high... i was expecting it around 1000 to 1500 Rs.
