If it will ever happen to me (which it wont) i would not pay, i would just ignore it and sooner or later they will have to get rid of the post and re-post in that spot about someone else, if you dont pay in time they will get rid of you.

Ok, there is people like that but still... at least isn't something like the hello kitty virus that is was a normal program with the icon of hello kitty and if you execute it = your pc will slowly die, one part by part, starts with some exes being corrupted, then all exchanged to other stuff, then internet doesn't work in a week and in 2 weeks your OS is gone =D

Sounds like just another way to gouge money from people using a service or program to me. I'm not a gamer but I do know some folks who are. I guess it's all in what you like but I guess it's mostly young people who do that.

But to answer you question, I think I'd just find a different place to game.
I do know that alot of programs are actually "Trojans" and you really have to be careful about that sort of thing. Privacy is a big issue to all of us if for no other reason than Identity Theft. I'm cautious , but at the same time if you can't enjoy your time online than what's the point ? Aside from trying to make money or work . But I mean free time , like here.
