I wonder if this is sustainable 35 trillion is a whole of money.
I understand people that do not purchase health care they will be fined,is it per person or will each person in a family get a fine?
If it is by the number of people in the family like say mom,dad and 3 kid's that means a $5,000 fine.
I suppose it will be a non-rosy picture for the American people long after Obama is gone.
Read this health care report remembered to wear your rose color glasses ~ ~

Got Rose colored glasses?

(April 23,2010 heath care report)

The report found that the president's law missed the mark, although not by much. The overhaul will increase national health care spending by $311 billion from 2010-2019, or nine-tenths of 1%. To put that in perspective, total health care spending during the decade is estimated to surpass $35 trillion.

Administration officials argue the increase is a bargain price for guaranteeing coverage to 95% of Americans.

The report's most sober assessments concerned Medicare.

In addition to flagging the cuts to hospitals, nursing homes and other providers as potentially unsustainable, it projected that reductions in payments to private Medicare Advantage plans would trigger an exodus from the popular program. Enrollment would plummet by about 50%, as the plans reduce extra benefits that they currently offer. Seniors leaving the private plans would still have health insurance under traditional Medicare, but many might face higher out-of-pocket costs.

In another flashing yellow light, the report warned that a new voluntary long-term care insurance program created under the law faces "a very serious risk" of insolvency.

"The U.S. spends $2.5 trillion a year on health care, far more per person than any other developed nation, and for results that aren't clearly better when compared to more frugal countries. At the outset of the health care debate last year, Obama held out the hope that by bending the cost curve down, the U.S. could cover all its citizens for about what the nation would spend absent any reforms."

That's the part of the article that is most significant. Why? Because the reason that the U.S. spends more on health care per person than any other developed country isn't because health insurance is too expensive, it's because we're the unhealthiest nation of any developed nation. Two thirds of the people in the U.S. are overweight or obese. No other country in the world is as overweight as the U.S. is. That's the problem that needs to be fixed and Obamacare does nothing to fix that problem. If we reduce the amount of overweight and obese people in this country then we prevent a lot of the health problems that occur as a result of being overweight/obese from ever happening in the first place which means that there will be far fewer health insurance claims and that will drive the price of health insurance down.

But if the country continues to get more overweight and more obese then I don't care what kind of health insurance laws there are, they won't work. Costs will have to go up in order to pay for all of the claims being filed.

Improving preventative health measures, including drastically reducing the amount of overweight/obese people in this country should have been Obama's first course of action when it came to health care. That's something that he could have done without having to spend trillions of dollars and it would be something that would make a far bigger difference in improving the health of this nation than Obamacare ever will.

Now how can the government do that exactly? Things like a nationwide ban on trans fat, reducing the amount of calories and sugar in food and drink, improving health education in schools so kids know all of the health risks involved with bad eating habits. Those are all things that the government can do to improve the health of this country without spending trillions of dollars. Sometimes the best solution is the simplest one, not the most complicated one like Obamacare.

I have to say that we do need to look into this issue and have yet to do it. Because well if we start telling Americans that you may have/want to watch how much fast food you eat in a week or drinking 2 large sodas will cause you to have health problems. We will hear the whole gambit of the government is trying to tell us what to eat. Preventative health needs to become the NUMBER ONE issue in the Health Care Reform debate if we created Tax incentives for running Preventative care programs and maybe started to fund I don't know neighborhood sports or recreation parks it might help to get people active enough to where they could eat a 500 calorie meal and not have the issues that come with that. We could launch a Public Campaign to educate people on balancing what you eat with active living like biking, walking and running. There are so many things we can do.

Honestly I am tired of hearing about the " Obese" people in our country, sure they have health issues, but what about the anerexic people that have health issues as well. Or the athletes in life that have repetitive injuries. What about the std epidemics? What about drug addicts and alcoholics. I love how the health issues are just thrown on people that are overweight oh and by the weigh by US standards you are obese if you are 25lbs over weight. Oh and I forgot what about the mentally depressed??? I know people that can eat like pigs and not gain an ounce so perhaps the idea is not to change the weight but to find a way to change the metabulizm.

Do you really think that people like being overweight? Some people work and work to lose weight only to fail. Depression is one of the biggest facts in obesity, society is another. Now we see people with weight issues and automatically we make the assumption that they do not eat properly or do not excise enough. Many people have an undlying issue (disability) that prevents them from excise that would assist with weight loss. so if i can only walk for 10 minutes at a slow pace, but I just ate a turkey sanwich on wheat bread do you think I have done enough to lose those calories? of course not. Just because you do not see the disability does not mean it is not there. Many medications for depression makes you gain weight... most people are on these medications for life.

In alot of cases there is an underlying issue if that issue is not resolved then weight loss will not be successful. I dont care how much you educate people on the right foods to eat.

Ok, I'd like to know what happens to this mess when Obama leaves office. It it is not sustainable, what is going to happen. All that money wasted!!! More gridlock and still more waste.

It's not sustainable with private for profit insurers (PPI). If you would all just go to single payer government run health care, you could easily cut your costs by one third, and provide better service.

That's what we do in Canada. Not private insurance.
