Insurance companies are just one headache after another!  email this discussion to a friend?

I'm beyond furious with my insurance company right now. I'm covered by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas under my employer's group plan. It used to be WEB TPA, but my employer transferred the plan to BCBS on January 1.

Everything was supposed to carry over exactly as it was with WEB TPA. Well, it didn't. I met my in-network plan year deductible with a couple of ER visits in October. When they transferred those claims to BCBS, BCBS decided to apply some of the claims to an in-network deductible, but the majority were credited to an out-of-network deductible. I found out when my OB/GYN's office called to reverify my benefits and told me I was going to owe them a lot more than my original payment plan was for.

I emailed my benefits supervisor, and she contacted BCBS for me. I got an email back from her saying that everything had been sorted out. Silly me, I assumed that it really had been. Nope! A couple weeks ago, I got some statements from BCBS for my daughter's birth that showed a bunch of charges had been applied to an inpatient hospital deductible. But my employer's plan doesn't have a separate hospital deductible.

Okay, fine. I emailed my benefits supervisor again and explained the situation. She was out of the office, but got back to me the next day saying that she'd contacted them again and had verified that my deductible was finally in their system right. BCBS was reprocessing the claims they got wrong, and everything should be hunky-dory.

Today I got another statement of benefits in the mail. All of the claims that were screwed up because of the deductible thing have been fixed! Yay!

Except... on the last page, there's an itemization of benefits paid on a claim that shows charges that have been applied to an inpatient hospital deductible. It's not for me. It's for my daughter.

Who is covered under my husband's insurance policy, not mine. They paid on the claim anyway. *facepalm*

The company I was working for last year switched over to BCBS on Jan 1 as well. That was because the other company was going to raise the rates 21%. It still took some time to get everything straightened out. I imagine a lot of plans switched over if all of the smaller ones had that kind of an increase. The BCBS plan actually turned out to be more in our favor than the previous plan, so hang in there. It still is a bunch of headaches, I know.
