My cure for poison ivy... |
| |
| I say my cure because who knows, what works for me may not work for you. At first I used benedryl, which does help with itching, but since I had it on my face, I kept spreading it from my pillow case and this product does not stop the spreading. *Note, during this time I also rubbed in hand sanitizer throughout the day. Next I tried banana peel, it worked for 3/4 of the day, then by early evening it started itching even when I applied the peel. So that was a bust.. The last thing I tried is a product called fast orange. This is a hand cleaner with abrasive particles. I scrubbed this onto the poison ivy with a clean cloth and then rinsed it in cool water. I only did this 3 times, for 2 nights and once in the morning and I had never had poison ivy go away as quickly as this treatment did.. As for what the other treatments involvement? I don't believe so, because I used only this treatment where the last place it started spreading, on my wrist and now there is only a small red mark. It didn't spread or become irritating. Though I'd never want to experiment to see if I ever had another break out if I can get it to go away within 2 days, I will if I do happen to get this again. | | | | | |

| | I have scaring from having poison ivy on my leg last year. I am happy I found this, because having a scar on my leg is one thing, but on my face is another. How I got this was from clearing out this spot where a pine tree was cut down last fall. I didn't think to know that this was growing there and I had put the roots in with the wood to burn in our fire pit..Later I went out with gloves and hopefully got it all and threw it away so we don't burn it.. | | | |

| | Just thinking about poison ivy makes me cringe. Every couple of days I have to take a medication that has the unfortunate side effect of making me itch. I hate that! I had been taking Benadryl because it helped, and it also helped my allergies. So it was killing two birds with one stone. But it seems to have lost its effectiveness on me, perhaps because my system has gotten used to it. So having to try to get rid of poison ivy or poison oak would be awful. | | | | | | |

| | Oh it is..I only had this for just over a week. But last year when I was doing the calamine lotion on my legs, I had it few weeks and now have a small scar due to itching..This makes me wonder how I got through chicken pox..(Though only us older people know what chicken pox is like..) | | | |

| | I am just so allergic to poison oak and poison ivy. I can get sick just by being around it. I have some in the backyard and so I hate to cut the grass. If i touch poison ivy or poison oak my eyes swell, face swells, etc. Benadryl does help for me, as does frequent washing to wash off the hystamine. | | | | | | |

| | Yes, washing does help, but next time try washing with this product and let me know if it works better, because I am still itch free and the rash is disappearing very quickly.. | | | |

| | Fast orange is something you can find in any auto department or store. It is a hand cleaner with pumice and it doesn't smell bad like regular hand cleaner. This is day 4 and still no itching. I tried to get my husband to look at my neck since it is hard for me to look closely in the mirror, but he grimaces and turns away saying, "eww, I don't want to see" Well, that ticked me off, because though I can't see it clearly, I know it isn't gross, I can feel that it is dry and not weepy. Then he tells me not to touch, that it still has the oil and I said, no it doesn't..Because if it did, then it would still be spreading on my face from my pillow and it isn't..Men!!!!! | | | |

| | I had tried the product zenfel, I think that's what it's called and it didn't do anything for my beau's poison sumac. He ended up getting a yeast infection on the skin from it. He kept scrubbing it though, like it was magically going to disappear. He then put alcohol on the raw skin, setting it on fire (not literally but you get the picture). We tried everything and the only thing that I found that kills the oils is darn near a whole bottle of dawn because it takes the oils out right away. The other thing is vinegar. I use it with everything and it does a great job at it. I will have to try the fast orange now that you say something. We have poison ivy right by our house where the neighbor lives. If she doesn't get it taken care of then we might...with some round-up, which will kill off her bushes like they did years before. Thanks for the tip! Very helpful!! | | | | | | |

| | Yes, I think any dish washing soap will work too, because I use one with bleach alternative and I didn't have to use the fast orange on my fingers. Plus the fast orange with the pumice feels great for the itching part, really relieves it.. | | | |

| | I am not personally allergic to poison ivy but both my father and husband are badly allergic to it. (luckily seems our kids take after me). They rub down with white vinegar anytime they even think they might have touched it. The acid breaks down the poison and dissipates it's oils. The sorts smell like a salad after wards but it always works. Now my hubby will end up in the hospital if he gets it for allergy shots and steroid shots so we are careful but by doing this he has not had an issue in years. | | | | | | |

| | I had it spreading on my face, one over my eye brow, so I didn't want to use something liquid like vinegar, taking a chance it would get into my eye. And the pumice in the fast orange feels wonderful for the itching and dries it up very quickly... | | | |
