| No Free Lunch Health Care Law Not Working As Advertised for Some Families | | | | Parents wanting to keep their adult children on their health care coverage will most likely have to pay more money in their premium cost to do so. Most of us know there in no free lunch some one has to pay for everything that is being offered free. The link below explains how this will work for the parents wanting to keep their children up to the age of 26 years old on their health care insurance. Maybe I'm just old fashion but adults in their twenties should be making their own way in life or at least they did in my day, what say you? (Parents who want to keep their adult children on their health care coverage) Washington (AP) - President Barack Obama's health care overhaul was supposed to take care of a major worry for parents of 20-year-olds making the transition to work: keeping the kids insured. But what sounds like a simple solution -- starting this year, letting young adults stay on their parents' health plan until they turn 26 -- involves a surprising amount of fine print. As a consequence, some families may have to wait until 2011 to get their kids covered, particularly if the parents are working for a large employer, benefits experts and government officials say. Some employers weighing whether to immediately extend coverage for young adults are wondering whether they'll have to withhold additional federal taxes from parents to cover the value of the benefit. http://cnsnews.com/news/article/64760 | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |

| | I absolutely agree with you. Now if they are in college I think it is ok to keep them on your insurance and most companies offer this. The Obamacare isn't going to relieve families of their worry of having insurance I think it is only going to burden them more. Insurance companies are going to get their money bottom line. Who will pay for this in the long run? The Consumers! It is like that old saying if something is too good to be true etc. Also think about all the domino effect this will have? I don't think people are really thinking that far ahead. With the control of Obamacare what will come next? I read an article from americawatchesobama.com about E-Care. In this article they talk about new technologies that would keep track of the citizens of the US for compliance in taking medicines etc. Is this what we really want for America? We are handing all the power over to the Government a little at a time and before we know it it will be too late. Obamacare sounds good to many people but remember it is just like a salesperson. They will pitch only what they want you to hear to make the sale. That is their objective. Your needs are never given a second thought. | | | | | | | | | | Encino Proctologist Board Certified Colorectal Surgeon Painless, In-Office Hemorrhoid Cure www.jefflakemd.com | add comment | | | |

| | My parents gave me a suitcase for my high school graduation present... Of course, they didn't get rid of me until I finished college. I was 21. When I went for my Master's, I was on my own. They let me steal bologne sandwiches now and then, when I was really strapped for cash. Now I'm 60. My Mom still buys me a bologne sandwich now and then. How did they come up with the age 26? | | | | | | | kennyrose (5047)

| | Who ever promised anyone a "free lunch" anyway, Rose? If parents have to pay a slightly higher premium, which in some cases I'm sure the child will actually be the one paying, it would still be a heck of a lot cheaper with better coverage than for the child to have to go out and purchase his or her own insurance. As far as "red tape" and fine print goes, there's always too much of that and it's never made simple, but that's for another discussion... "My day" wasn't much after "your day" and you're right, young adults in their twenties often were on their own back then. However, it should also be noted that back then a much larger percentage of kids were able to find a good job right out of school, whether it be high school for some or college for others, and most employers offered health insurance. Heck, back when I was very young even the sewing factories offered decent health insurance! In the event someone needed to get their own, the premiums were much, MUCH lower than as compared to the average paycheck. Health care in general was lots cheaper so someone not having insurance wasn't nearly the problem it is today. Of course, people are living longer now and conditions that killed people "back then" are easily treatable today, albeit very expensive at times.
