Hard to snap...  email this discussion to a friend?

You know when you have a favorite pair of jeans and the snap becomes hard to close? Well, I usually take that extra effort on mine, but my son won't.

As the rate he goes through jeans and the price of clothes today, I wonder if there is a lubricant or something I can put on the snap to make it work easier?

Any ideas?

First, I would try a piece of sand paper or an emery board inside the snap and on the outside of the connecting snap. Then try a bit of bee's wax or candle wax on both areas. If that doesn't work, then try opening the snap part a bit with a pliers (don't use too much pressure so that you don't open it too much). Sometimes the washing and drying will either burr the parts or expand, bend or contract the parts.

Hope it helps, that's about all I can come up with right now. I will do some research when I get home.

Oh thank you loverbear, I saw this post slowly disappearing as no one responded. I will try these suggestions. I mean I just bought him another pair of jeans because he was getting low and we can't afford for him to not longer wear this pair..

Another question, do you snap and zip the jeans when they're washed? If not, snap and zip them and also turn them inside out when you wash and dry them. The fabric will last longer without having the teeth of the zipper rubbing on them, and the snaps will also hold their shape in the dryer.

During the summer I line dry all my clothes. It saves a ton on electricity and the clothes smell sooooo good. The dogs also love their towels line dried. The towels are a bit rough and they roll on them and as Bill says "do the Jerry Lee". (The dog on one of the cop movies Bill likes.) It also saves wear and tear on buttons and snaps by not having them bounce around in the dryer.

The three in one oil is a good idea, but it does leave an odor and a residue behind on the fabric which might be objectionable. I use both Three in One oil on my sewing machines along with WD40.

blushblush No I don't loverbear. A professional clothes washer would probably cringe if they saw how I wash my clothes..But I know now and will try to get into that habit.

I too line dry whenever possible, but not jeans and towels. Though I heard that if I line dry them until they are almost dry and then throw them into the dryer for a few minutes, the stiffness will go away. But I don't have the time to keep checking on how dry they are. I haven't tried your ideas yet, but I do have sewing machine oil and I may try that first..

Sorry i did not get! what is snap? Do you mean the zip? If yes, then you can run candles on either side of the zip from inside, or even pencil point(graphite) these are smoothing agents and the zip will operate smoothly. in fact candles can be used on drawer edges too if it hard to pull in and out and /or is too noisy. It makes it smooth as butter.

No, the snap is above the zipper.

hi carmelanirel well if the suggestions do not work, and you have 'to buy
more jeans go to Walmart as you will save a bundle on boys jeans and other clothes for the whole family. put a little four and one oil on the snap and it should close beautifully. good luck and God bless.

God bless you too Hatley. Yes Walmart is a good place to shop, but only if their clothes are on clearance, and that isn't often. I did get a pair of jeans for free for my son at Kohls recently because they were on sale and I had a gift card..:)

Watch Kohls for between season clothes. I've bought jeans for less than $5! I go into Khols for almost everything, watching shoe sales (I got over $500 worth of shoes for $15), clothing (finding tops and shirts for Bill for between $1 and $3)underwear and jewelry (I bought a bunch of their Christmas pins and earrings for gifts and spent about $20 for $125 worth of gifts. I also got a beautiful rhinestone necklace that was $40 for $7! Bill knows that I am so hooked that he also buys me gift cards for my birthday and Christmas.

I know Loverbear, kohls is awesome, though I find it more awesome for my size 0 daughter and all the cute clothes she can get..hahahaha

I did get a really nice shirt for 5.00 and like I said, since I had a gift card, I got my sons jeans that were on sale for free..Now that's a deal..Yet my husband doesn't understand, each time I make these deals he shakes his head and says, "I don't know how they stay in business."

ha ha yourself..read then post: As the rate he goes through jeans... He as in my son who is not one of the millions of over weight kids. And this: I can put on the snap to make it work easier?
In other words, it has nothing to do with fit, it has to do with hardware of the clothing.

So for me to loss weight in order for my sons jeans to snap together is ridiculous..
