Is making a cat wear a collar cruel?   

i dont think so, some wear a bell on the collar so the owners know where the cat is, some have a flea collar, some with the address of the owners, as long as it's not choking the pet i think it's ok. i have a dog and the only time he's has a collar on is when he's outside. the vets now-a-days can put a micro chip in the pets ear so when they get lost the pet can be found. thats always an option, here it costs 25.00 dollars for the chip.

depends on the collar. and it should not be a permanent thing since cat aren t dogs :) they lick every single part of their body, always jump, crawl, get into tight places and alot of times a collar can cause them to strangulate. not sure it s cruelty since alot of times is not intended but people just don t know about this things. even outside the cat can often get caught with that collar in the various place they "travel" it s just risky.

Over the years I've had about a dozen cats. Some loved wearing a collar - they belonged - others hated them and got rid ASAP. I don't know!!

I see nothing cruel about it if it's the right size. We buy my cat these safe collars that snap off if she gets it caught on something. That way she's not in danger. Sure she loses the collar but I'd rather that than have her hanging from a tree by it. And I keep a collar on my cat because it has my phone number on it in case she gets lost.

Hi beachbabe24! As with the other responses here, I too agree that there is nothing wrong with putting a collar on a cat. However, I make sure that they are "break away" collars! That way if they get a little too rough when they are playing or they get hung up somewhere, then the collar will release and they are able to get away! The break away collars cost no more than a regular collar. Plus it gives me peace of mind. I know that they will be o.k.! Besides that I prefer collars because that way I can hear them throughout the house. (each one makes a bit of a different sound with the bells)! And, over time, they will get used to wearing them. It is not cruel at all. Besides that, like everyone else has mentioned, they are good for keeping your info on your cat. Besides, it's not like a cat can carry a wallet or purse. lol!!! Regardless, I think it is a good idea to keep collars on your pets...any kind of pet. That way they are a bit safer.

i think it's not cruel to put collar to your cat as long as he's still free to do anything he wants and he's comfortable. don't be afraid of that person who thinks it's bad to put collar. what's importanat is that your cats is well taken care of.

Hi, beachbabe24. Only if it it used in a harmful way that will hurt the cat. If the collar is being pulled harshly then it is cruel then. If a cat wears a collar around its neck, it does look kind of cruel, but it really isn't. It is just a way to keep the cat from running off with its leash. And the collar also helps to identify the cat by name. It is not cruel, but only if it is misused wrongfully.

I don't think its cruel, I mean if it's tight or something yeah that is cruel. But if it isn't misused or anything I think it's fine. We have two cats, one wears her collar the other doesn't she'll take it off immediately if we put it on her. We only have them wear breakaway collars so they wont get caught up on anything.

Cats are energetic animals and need to move faster so I think putting them a collar is not a propriate act.I am sure that wearing our pets is also not the best thing we could do for them.We just have to give them some freedom.Cats are so lovly animals that I am sure if your cat knows you she will come to you so you don't have to tie her up.

IMO, I don't view a cat wearing a collar to be abusive. @_@ Unless the collar was intentionally put to strangle the cat. We used a collar on our cat just for everyone in the neighborhood to know its ours. And for Petes sake twas a Persian Cat. And I don't want her getting lost to other peoples house when she's that expensive. >_>
