Where do I go to report Scam Phone Calls? |
| |
| I had a scam phonecall last night… they claimed to be from a company called Bass and Associates, saying I have an unpaid debt that’s in collections. I picked it up at the end of the message that was being left, within seconds of the conversation he was asking for my social sec number…. I hung up on him, I called the number back from jenni’s phone… it is so fake and the guy that picked up was the same guy again all asking for my social… I said there is absolutely no reason you should need my social sec number, if I owe this ‘debt” then you should probably already have it. I was going on and on and finally he hung up on me. I have to figure out who I should report this to .. please help! | | | | | |

| | For starters report it to the police. Second file a complaint with the federal trade commission and with the BBB as well. I am sure that when you call your local police they can also give you more info as to who to contact. It sounds like a identity theft thing that they have set up and they need to be brought down. Good for you for not giving him the info that he wanted. As you said had it been a legit debt they would have all your info and would not have to call you to obtain it. Good luck and keep us updated as to how it goes. I love to hear when scammers are brought down. Oh one other thing you can always call Tom Martino and have him check into it as well. I am sure he would love to be apart of that. he does have a web page you could check out as well. Here is the link to his site. | | Hi, caroll30. I think that the FTC, Federal Trade Commission, handles consumer complaints that is related to fraud and scams like this. My mother-in-law had the same problem last year, during the summer. A man called her home and he was asking for her Social Security number. She did not give it to him. She felt like, if she owed on something, he should already have this number. I think that he was calling about a bill. I told her that she did the right thing, because there is no telling that this man was whom he said that he was. He could have been just trying to run a game on her. I am glad that you did not give him anything. If you know for sure that you don't owe Bass and Associates, then you have nothing to worry about. Contact FTC, and see if they can assist you. If not, then ask them who can. I am sure that someone will be able to assist you on this matter. Scammers are becoming more evident these days, we just have to out smart them each and every time. | | | | | | |

| | I would call your phone company and report this along with any information u were given & asked for. Sometimes local tv news stations like to do stories on those thing as warnings to others. | | | | | | |

| | I know what you are going through. My husband got a call similar to yours. The only difference was that it was an account his ex-wife had opened up using his last name (part of the divorce decree states that she needs to change her name back to her maiden name). You dod the right thing by hanging up on the guy. If it was a legitimate company they would have your social security number. I am sure that if you had a debt you would remember it. I would report it to the Police Department and then to your local Attorney General. | | | | | | |
