Living in a council house and buying designer clothes????  

Maybe she does not eat anything.This way she saves to buy cloths.
You have people who do that.
Maybe she has a night job, no one knows about...???

hmm, maybe she;d prefer to go out and buy new outfits rather than having her own house. it sounds familiar though; my mum has a council house but she goes out to nice places and buys things from ebay all the time.. she can't particularly afford to though to be honest, i think she just wings it!

It is sad that some quite well off people live in council houses and the some very poor people remain on the waiting list. I believe that once a person earns a good standard of living he or she should move out of the council property and it should be given to a poor family or a person finding in need of cheap housing. Years ago people that lived in council houses were told they could buy the house. For that reason many former council properties are owned by ordinary people. It means the council don't have many houses available for people on the waiting list. If the council have houses in a particular area it can become quite a deprived area. There can be problems with crime. I think all people living in council houses should be poor. If they earn enough for designer clothes then they can afford a mortgage on a regular property perhaps. Many houses and flats are available to be rented from a landlord. There is a deal for workers in essential services to get cheap housing like a house at 70% of its cost and then rent payments for the rest of the house. Your relative is living in a council house and she is certainly not poor.

Ugh my sister is like that. She developed a drug habit and has been unemployed for like 10 years. She lives off of the government. She gets checks from various resources and food stamps. She went through a rehab program where of course our tax dollars paid for everything and she was able to live in a house for free and buy herself 160 dollar boots. Where did that money come from??? It really irks me because here I am working my butt off at a job. I've never done drugs. I've never been arrested. I'm doing the things I'm supposed to right? So why am I always broke and losing my home? She's been "bad" her whole life and living in the lap of luxury. Where did I go wrong? Or better yet, where did the system go wrong?

I think there are alot of people in council houses that buy and do alot of things that people with mortgages like myself cannot afford.I think the reason why they are soo much better off as their rent is alot less than a mortgage with the house and the contents insurance that we have to pay.I have also noticed that alot of people in council houses do not worry and are not kicked out when they owe rent where as we have to not miss a mortgage payment or we lose our homes.I look at it this way when my mortgage is paid then i can buy what ever i want and i will not need to pay rent or a mortgage where as they will still be paying.When i die the children will get a share of the house so that will mean they will get a good start in life.

i know someone who is like that my sister in law she lives in a council house and she goes and get her hair done her nails done every 2 wks plus she has 4 children 1 on the way i have 4 children and i cant even afford to get things i would rather go with out and spend some money on my children so they dont go with out my sister in law in january she spent 80 pounds on a dress she only wore that once how silly was that some people have more money then sence sometimes happy mylotting

Well they get help from the government in order to get their act together. Life is unfair to each of us in different ways. We work hard to earn money and some people have it coming for free. I recently read this article about a family who had 5 kids. They were living on welfare and redoing their house with the money they got from welfare. They were asking for more money because the father apparently "got fired up when in a crowd" even though his favourite activity was getting drunk in a pub and watching football games live at the stadium. Their kids did not go to school but had the latest of all gadgets.

This really annoyed me. There were people who were working hard for that money and it was being spent on undeserving people who did not want to work. The system is definitely flawed. It lets people sit on their butts and not do any work and live the life of kings and queens for free. Shouldn't each of us get the same benefits? I think it is upto us to make sure we choose a leadership that changes this and makes all people work to earn the money they spend so they realize the value and worth of it.

This really gets to me. We pay our own rent in a privately rented house, as we cannot get any kind of Government help even though we could sometimes do with it. But I know a lot of people who get council houses where they pay a very low amount in their rent, and then go out and buy 50inch plasma screen TV's, smoke and drink heavily, buy everything brand named, and buy themselves new clothes every month.

It annoys me that our taxes are paying basically for these people to go out and spend their money frivilously as they can afford to since they get such low rent!!! That though does not mean to say, I do not think there are people out there who need the housing help and do not waste money, and have to pinch every penny!!

But there are the odd few who do it, and it is very annoying to see especially when there are honest people like me and my husband who earn money honestly, but still don't have enough every month for treats.

The original idea behind council housing was to provide cheap decent accommodation for workers. Now they are given to single mothers, some of whom get pregnant in order to get a house, criminals, drunks, foreigners and those mentally disturbed people who have been abandoned in the community. Men are discriminated against.
