3 sweeps in the NBA second round  email this discussion to a friend?

Orlando convincingly defeated the Atlanta Hawks in each of their 4 games, the Phoenix Suns had their sweetest revenge against the San Antonio Spurs, and the defending champions easily cruised past against the shorthanded Utah Jazz to move up to the conference finals. The Western Conference Finals is already set with the defending champions Lakers and the surprising Suns facing each other while the defending Eastern Conference champions Magic will still have to wait for the Cleveland Cavaliers-Boston Celtics winner.

Orlando still has to lose a game in the playoffs as they swept the first round against the Charlotte Bobcats while the Lakers and Suns entered the second round losing 2 games to their respective first round opponents. After losing 2 games against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round, the Lakers won their last 6 playoffs games and proved a point that they're still a solid contender after struggling against the young and gritty Thunder. The Suns on the other hand lost their first game to the shorthanded Portland Trail Blazers, split the first 4 games before winning their last 6.

For the Magic, much credit would go to their deep bench. Dwight Howard, Vince Carter, Rashard Lewis, and Jameer Nelson did a great job in leading the Magic but their role players Matt Barnes, Mickael Pietrus, and Jason Williams are providing the Magic all the support they can get. The Lakers on the other hand is getting a great lift from Kobe Bryant and their huge line-up of Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum, and Lamar Odom. The Lakers have exerted their size and might over the hard fighting Jazz in the sweep. And as for the Suns, Steve Nash high basketball ingenuity and heart as well as the rejuvenated game of Amare Stoudemire and Jason Richardson have led the team to another Western Conference Finals stint.

yeah, i was surprised to see this in the second round of playoff matches. i thought that they were going to be competitive and tight games. i think the winning teams really put much pressure on the other teams. because looking at the losing teams, they are good as the winning teams, except i guess lakers versus jazz. well, there is one more match going on between the cavs and celtics. it looks like it is going to go to distance.

The Orlando-Atlanta match was the only series that I thought that would end up on a sweep. For the Suns-Spurs, I really thought that this one would go down the wire, maybe Suns in 7. For the Lakers-Jazz, I had it Lakers on 5, winning it on Staples Center. Nevertheless, a tremendous advantage for the Lakers against the Suns in the Western Conference Finals. Charles Barkley really had it right. Barkley said before the playoffs that the Suns is the second best team in the West and only the Lakers could beat them. An upset in the West is highly unlikely but for sure the Suns would give the Lakers a good challenge.

one of the most lopsided rounds i've seen in the past five years or so.

definitely looking good for both orlando and los angeles. i think both teams have the big men and depth in rotation to continue lordign it over their opponents in the finals. i'm not saying that the lakers and the magic sweep phoenix and cleveland/boston respectively, i just don't see how the opposing teams can match up. i'm a big lebron fan and i've always thought that this si the year of the cavs but watching every single game of the orlando-atlanta series, i can see that orlando is peakign right now and they are the best team in the post-season. this si a different orlando team that went to the finals last year. if thsi becomes a rematch of last year's finals, the lakers will be in for a surprise against the magic.

unless, lebron james can dominate every single game from this point forward and the rest of thecavs bench put on a stellar performance in each of these games, i think orlando has already punched its ticket to the 2010 nba finals.

I still can't see the winner of the Cleveland-Boston match. Rajon Rondo just came back to life and got back from his usual triple double ways from last season. If Rondo could play at such a very high level for the rest of the series, this one could still go down the wire. Cleveland vs Orlando? Boston vs Orlando? Either way, I'd slightly give the series to Orlando. LeBron James is still playing hurt and that should take it's toll against the very deep Orlando team while the Magic's depth is still too much against the much experienced but aging Celtics.

It was also a bit surprising after seeing that first round's anxious moments, nearly upsets and upsets in the making. It should have been a competitive 2nd round, but it was not about to happen. The Cavaliers-Celtics series is the only series in the second round that is so tight. Anybody could win this series. All team except that series barged into the conference finals in a dominating fashion. Suns versus the Lakers will be a good series and whoever plays against the Magic in the Eastern Conference finals, better watched out as the Orlando Magic is on a roll winning 8 straight in the playoffs.
