Do I need to go to school to learn website designing?  

That's pretty interesting..I've been checking into schools and they're pretty expensive! I want to learn website design.

I've created kind of amateurish websites before and needn't go to any schooling for it.

I was feeling frustrated after this one college I checked into (a well known arts college) wants 30 grand for a website design course-that's a lot of money...so what could I lose by trying to learn online first? Nothing! Thanks!! I'm gonnna go check that out later!

Website creation for dummies..I thought I was missing out on something! so many people seem to have this knowledge-some of them from other countries...and I'm thinking why can't I try it? I will look...you seem to have a lot of helpful info I need to look at!

Hello Rachelle, Thanks you for the opportunity to advice and share some knowledge. I believe that we all are capable of learning anything we put our minds into, and feel schools are totally aware of that so those capitalize on our needs. The fact is that, books as expensive as they may be and tools the same, they won't total $30K ever. The thing about it is that with out the graduation paper, one does not have leverage when gaining business or clients. On the other hand one's experience is the leverage we need. So if you are serious about that study, then NO you don't need to pay that much money to learn and be great at this topic. But you do need to organize the learning steps which will lead you to ride the learning curve: sources, suppliers, marketing, and you must make the time to study through and through, just like if you were at school. Just because you would do it at home, does not mean do a half way job. Thank you for alerting me about the link in my website. The site is very good and informative. Hey you! Long time no see...you make it sound so complicated! I once tried to start my own ptc site...I didn't get the script thing-so I paid some chick 200 bux and wound up selling the site to her...I couldn't get it. I really want to learn more..one day I hope to set a shop and sell something or any site really that can make me money...or even be like this girl making 200 bux in just a few days time! That's awesome. The site used to be called Ransom mails-for our horse Ransom..even had a pic of him on it..I can't find it now-so I'm sure the name has been changed.

I am really so sorry that i had reduced my frequency on mylot and u missed me so much. Well its nothing complicated just that its a compilation of multiple softwares and scripts added in. So if u need to do the best u need to have a knowledge on the maximum softwares so that u could use all the elements in.
U will surely be able to set up ur shop and do good. I have that faith and trust in u.

I just want to do some basics..now I really feel dumb..I knew there was a way around paying thousands of dollars...I think maybe my biggest failure is not having that software. I'm going to look for it when I have time later. Good idea about the library-one place I've definitely forgotten to look!

If you read a few comments up-I had tried to do my own ptc site with cashcrusader scripts..I failed trying to figure out how to write in things..like an email is worth 1 cent or whatever...I never figured out how to put in my pictures or add any ads...I felt stupid and I lost a pretty good amount of money in the process.
If I had maybe just googled it-I might have figured it out then? I guess I need to learn more before getting too far ahead of myself.

Rather you than me. I'll keep working away at the niches. I would never go near that sort of thing anyway using Netscape, with a bit of Dreamweaver thrown in when I need a form.

That's what I was thinking..why take out expensive student loans for something you can learn on your own time at home. I have been starting to learn a bit.
