Good Songs for Acoustic Beginner |
| |
| Okay, so I have been teaching myself to play the guitar for a couple months now. I have a good knowledge of guitar, and have played the bass-guitar for more than three years, so I would say I am closer to intermediate than beginner, but I've still got a ways to go. I am looking for some fairly easy but great-sounding and popular songs to learn to help myself get the hang of all the techniques I still haven't mastered. I'm a college student mostly into modern-rock, so suggestions in that genre would be good, though I will take anything. I have recently been working on Jessica by the Allman Brothers, Island in the Sun by Weezer, and Crash Into Me and Where Are You Going? by Dave Matthews. All are pretty easy songs but sound good and are popular! | | | | | |

| | This is very interesting for me to learn about. I could not really recommend what you can work on, cause I don't know if you are likely to follow tabs or you are a music expert who would read music to learn and apply such in guitar playing. I normally find songs I like to play by using the keywords: guitar tabs. May I ask you how do you do to learn your songs? Do you stick to only one song until you master it? | | | | | | |

| | Well, I use tabs cause I can't read notes for one, and I'm not good enough to learn by ear. What I usually do is try to learn a few songs at once piece by piece. I get bored playing the same song over and over for hours, so if I have a couple to work on I can mix it up and play around with all of them. This way you get to work on different techniques, chords, scales, riffs, all at once and your hand isn't stuck in the same position over and over again. I can honestly say I have only mastered one song, but I can play half or less of about 15 at the moment. I always find myself coming across a part I simply just can't learn. I keep trying with all of them, and I'm sure in time I will get it. I usually just play for fun so it's more about the enjoyment than actually being impressive. | | | |

| | I appreciate you sharing your ways of learning and approach at the guitar learning progress. I have tried to learn for years and its always so hard for me to master songs. Over time I have come to learn to listen better and pick up on more ways to play. I love looking and following at video lessons on YouTube. Also like to get my tab songs from links like this: http://www.guitartabs.cc/ The concepts of scales and riffs seem intimidating and confusing to me. I share with you the fun aspect of playing and must confess its such a great companion. My guitar is my best friend. | | | |

| | Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana is a good song to start with. Google for the tabs, I'm sure it's everywhere. It's a grunge song though so it doesn't really fall within the modern rock genre. Great song to begin with however. | | | | | | |
