Virtual Credit Cards?  

Thanks nsj, so I save money in the long run by not paying high transaction fees..and it isn't safe either?? I am glad to know this, before I attempted to sign up..

But how safe is it? nsj947 also says it has a higher transaction fee, I don't want that if I can pay that by using e-bay without the card.

I don't know about transaction fee, I have been using it only in online shops and paid no fee. I also had no fee during paypal verification.

As for safety. You see, the virtual card is empty most of the time, except a short period during transaction ( if you are careful ). I need to transfer money to the card in similar way as I transfer money to a different bank account, with use password and safe codes. After I am done with shopping, (usually a few minutes) I transfer unused money back to my bank account. So even if someone gets to may card number and cvv2 there is nothing to steal.

So there is no fee taken out of paypal or my back account? Because if I got one it will be for online shopping only..

I do not pay fee for transaction but I do pay yearly fee for using card and I may upload and clear funds as many times I want.
Remember that different banks in different parts of the world may have different offers.
I would suggest checking the bank web site or just calling the bank.

Oh, so there is a small fee? How much, because if it take too much out of my paypal, then I might as well go with ebay for my shopping..(darn, here I thought I found a way to shop outside ebay) :(

I am confused, why do you want to use it with your paypal in shops, it is rather used instead, like "normal" card.
I have herd, that paypal has also virtual cards but it is beta version, so use on your own risk ;)
As for fee, just ask in your bank. Mine don't tell you anything, I am from europe and my card is in euro and I get it from a local bank. You may even get it for free.

Because I use paypal and saw on their page that walmart takes paypal..They do, except you need a credit or debit card and to get a paypal credit or debit card, I need a credit card..In other words, I can't get the normal card and would not want one except to use in paypal, which is why someone mentioned the virtual cards. So paypal has virtual cards and you would not recommend them? If that is the case, would the other "virtual cards" work with paypal? If not, I don't need them...

I get it, but I can't help you there. I don't use my card with paypal to buy from shops. I just use it directly in shops. I used it only once to send money to paypal and connect my bank account with paypal.
As far as I know, all shops and paypal see a virtual card as a real one. But mine don't last only 24 h, it has a permanent number and cvv2 but no credit and limits set manually.
The trick with paypal is, that they take a small sum during verification process and after few days sent it back. No idea how it works if a card last only 24H.
I don't want a credit card too, I had one stolen already and I don't want to go there ever again, so I understand your problem.

Actually I did, but only for shopping online for walmart. When I get my mylot payout, I transfer the money into my savings and then take that money to buy a prepaid card at walmart..That way I can buy things at walmart online that they don't carry in the store..:)

Some of them are free according to the article that I am going to post the "un" link to. The funny thing is they've been around for about 7 years. You can use the virtual credit card for 24 hours or with a certain merchant (depending on the virtual credit card issuer)after the period of time they expire and yes you'll need to get a new one for the next shopping spree.

Something I did until I got my other card (a Wal Mart money card) was to buy the prepaid credit cards. I learned the hard way about identity theft, but fortunately didn't lose too much. I had called a school I went to in Montana, used my debit card to pay for the transcripts and someone started trying to use the number to buy expensive stereo equipment. Fortunately my bank was very observant and notified me immediately about the attempt at charges...and they refused them as soon as they were sent to the bank. It was a mess but I managed to clear it up within a few days and had to wait two weeks for a new debit card. But I got very shy about using the card on the phone and the net.

One thing for you to watch for, and that is "security" for any of the online sites you buy from. If you are to the check out stage, watch for an "s" will appear in the address line (http://sebay.com for example)so that you know that there it is a secure site. Also in the page there will be a logo showing that it is a secure site for you to be able to use your credit card. I went through an "E" commerce class last spring and got all the information about dealing with transactions on the internet. I usually only deal with three or four businesses on line so I don't worry too much about my information getting intercepted. But I keep a close watch on what goes on with my cards anyhow. But those two simple things to watch for, the "s" in the address when you check out while buying something (s is for secure) and the logo showing secure or trusted site somewhere in the check out area are two really important things to keep your eyes open for.

Give me a couple of days to locate the logos for the secure sites and post them for you to see. Those sites that have secure check out area are okay to use personal debit or credit cards.

Amazon, Overstock.com, and any major department store is fine to shop on. I use Amazon a lot, and have ordered from overstock before.

I might do this next time if I get enough thumbs up on it..So far I have one that says they charge you a fee and another that says they don't..And loverbear says it only lasts for 24 hours, so I will have to wait until I find something else to buy because I already bought the item I wanted on ebay..

Hi Pose...From what I have gathered, 2 people have used them, one says there is a fee and another says there isn't. Then loverbear says it only lasts for 24 hours, that way if someone hacked into my account, they can't get any money. so if that is the case, I might get one right before buying something so I can buy it and then I think to do it again I have to recreate another one..I was confused on that part and really hope someone who regularly uses it will clear it all up...

Hi there, I don't know if it is being paranoid or what, but if we are to link this virtual credit cards to our paypal or other bank accounts, then does that mean it can also be used by someone hacking into our accounts to transfer our own money? And since we are not able to use it after a designated time of use, then we will not be the one using our money from our accounts?

I don't want any credit card, they caused a nightmare we finally got away from. So supposedly this virtual credit card I can make paypal payments to places like wal mart, but still don't have a for sure thing on how good it is..I still have time before I buy anything since I already used most of the money I had. So hopefully within the next few weeks I can find out more about it..

When you say "Linked to my debit card" you mean an online card correct? If so, this might be the way for me to shop online when a business doesn't take paypal..that's great..

Well, if it good for only 24 hours, and you use a very strong password, then I think it should be safe..I was also worried about fees, but that doesn't seem to apply..

it is pretty good, it seems to be the only good one i have found.. you can also get a plastic pre paid card too from here, costs £4.99, but they send it out to you... might be handy to have
