Never too late to earn a college degree: A 94-year old woman earns her degree  email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 97/100. boybato (2210) 2 years ago

I just read a news from Yahoo! that a 94 year old woman just earned her college degree. Hazel Soares earned a degree from Mills College, an Oakland liberal arts college for women. According to Soares, it took her a while to finish her college degree because she was busy. Mills had 6 children, 40 grandchildren and great grandchildren. Soares however isn't the oldest person to earn a college degree. In 2007, Nola Ochs graduated from college at the age of 95, coincidentally, also the same year Soares enrolled at Mills College. Before enrolling at Mills, Soares spent six years taking courses at Chabot College at Hayward before earning her associate's degree at the age of 85.

Soares is such an inspiration. It shows that learning should never stop and one should have the knack to learn. It really doesn't mean that one has to enroll in different colleges but one should make it a part of life to earn. What's happening these days is that people think that once they're done with school and have already earned a degree, it's all done for them. We should strive to get better and there is no way to get better than to learn constantly. Soares is a proof and inspiration that we should never stop learning. A lot of people make a mistake of giving up school and learning early in their lives thinking that they'd be better off without school. Some people succeeded in life after dropping out but the number of those who failed are far too enormous. Education is very important and we should aspire for it.

Yeah, as far as I am concerned, I think I admire the old lady so much for her spirit of going to study at college degree, which can be a so difficult thing for her. Now we can see her action here, what can we young man do? I think we try our best not just stay home ,but just go our for a bigger business now. I think we can succeed in the end.

Hi boybato!

I saw her in the news last night. I was extremely happy not to mention that I was equally proud of her. She is certainly a role model to many all over the world not just her age. Imagine all those hardships and sufferings she must have faced. Her perseverance, her determination, her overwhelming courage: these are the traits I applaud and commend in her. A wonderful, a fantastic lady, isn't she? It goes to say that learning is a life-long endeavor. It is never too late to earn a college degree as you put it.

Wow, that's really cool. Imagine, her age did not hinder her in getting her degree. May this story be an inspiration for those out there who are feeling hopeless in getting their degrees. Age doesn't matter as long as you have the willingness to learn and learning does not stop because you are busy. It may take a while, but try to finish it like her...Go grandma! I'm proud of you. :)
