I took this picture of a very old planter outside this historical log cabin. As one who loves to garden, I'd love to have a planter like this, after all it lasts for years and years unlike the ones they make today..I think colorful flowers with some kind of vine plant will look awesome in this. What kind of plant would you add to this if you had one?

Probably an ivy around the inside edge and a taller plant in the center. That way visually there would be an up and a down. My husband is the plant box person. He grew some beautiful plants that the flowers looked like velvet. I'm more the, "If we can't eat it, why are we growing it?" kind of person. Although, I do have some non-edibles near the road because the said and salt goes several feet into my property from the road. The people before us had two tire gardens by the road. It costs a forture to get rid of tires and any food grown that close to the road would be poluted. So I grow pansies or these succulent flowers that are all different colors and spread, they're also vinelike. Not sure what they're called. I'm not a flower person unless they're edible. Like roses, nastursiums, etc.

Hahaha, I know I used to be that way too..Why grow it if you can't eat it?
Which is why I don't know what would look good in a planter like this..Your idea of an ivy around the edge and a tall plant in the center sounds very nice..

thank you very much for best response. That planter would look great next to a stone house with stones like it. Interesting discussion. Take care.

I don't have a stone house either, but the vineyard I went with a friend to had an awesome stone house that would look glorious with it.
